Tracking my custom Arctic Grey Metallic 2019 X5 XDrive 50i

I plan to update as my order progresses...

Order Date: 12/10/2018

"PRODUCTION BEGINS"date: 1/7/2019

Expected finished "Final Assembly" date -- and date I pick up at factory in South Carolina (!): about 1 week. I will post pix if y'all are interested -- and if they let me take 'em!

OVERVIEW:
I wanted 3 cars in 1: a work truck, and luxury cruiser, and a sports car. I know I compromised on each one, but this is the best I can find that accomplishes all 3 very well.

So that's why I got the X5 and not the X3, which handles better and gets better gas mileage than the X5. Because the X5 is bigger, and tows more (that's why I got the tow hitch), so it is a better 'work truck'. Same reason I stuck with the default 20" wheels and tires -- better for "off road", such as it is with this ride.

And I got the Dynamic Handling Package to make it more like a 'sports car', knowing full-well it's not an M5! And the DHP also actually makes it more of a luxury cruiser/more comfortable on road trips.

And I got the Bowers & Wilkins and Acoustic Glass because I love audiophile sound, even though I've never heard this exact system. I hope its actually worth it! And that is why I had to wait until December to order -- that was the first time I saw the B&W available on the online configurator. Which is also super-annoying because I had to extend my lease, which means I had to pay to register for another year here in California... yuk!

I had originally ordered with Coffee Extended Merino Leather, but then I saw some better pictures online in the sunlight and it looks friggin' orange like basketballs... yuk! So I switched to black on the last possible day to make changes. Also my current X5 has Vernasca leather which feels like friggin' cardboard... double-yuk! And also you can only get cardboard-Vernasca on an X3, triple-yuk!

I got the Matte trim because I live in SoCal and it is always sunny and stupid shiny trim is always blinding me and is stupid.

My one real spurge was the glass controls. Not even sure if I will actually like them, but you can't get 'em on the X3, so I felt like I should add 'em on in. Hope they are elegant and not tacky.

Great build.

You must have mistaken Coffee Merino with Tartufo... Yes Tartufo had a slight orange tint, that's why I went with Coffee Merino. Coffee Extended Merino gives a warm Luxury look... checkout the pictures in my Post here https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1569807

Yeah I'm a big fan of the Coffee, it's a rich brown. There are other colors that look orange and Coffee is not one.

And as myself and others have pointed out, Tartufo really isn't orange in real life. But you can't go wrong w black!

You don’t want ACC or high speed collision avoidance?? They only come in the “ Driving Assistance Plus” package.

Wow almost my same build. I chose to keep the vernasca black leather and have every option you ticked except glass controls and i choe the Aluminum Tetragon trim. Mine went into Production begins or in line in the queue on the 7th with estimated completion of 1/16 but then will ship up Northeast. Looking forward to the B&W and accoustic glass. I drove one with all the Driving assistance plus and chose not to get it either. I also have ACC on a couple other vehicles and most of the time do not use it. Even in the "shortest" follow distance people cut in front on the highway and the car brakes like crazy all the time. I prefer normal cruise and actually driving. I understand why folks may want it, i just chose to not have those features in my car.

Ya, I really don't like most of the driver-aids, I find most to be annoying, and as my price approached $100K I thought some compromises were in order!

What kind of discount did you get?

5.81% off the sticker msrp with destination. Then the rebates available and they treated me very fair on a trade.

I wonder if there is a notable change between coffee extended merino and regular coffee vernasca... anyone have side by side pics?

To spite your salesman you would cancel and buy a Jeep instead of finding another BMW dealer?? Good luck with the Jeep.

01/16/2019 -- 10 days after "Production Begins" date, finally some progress. Today it is going thru these steps:
  • Exterior body assembly begins
  • In the paint booth
  • Entering assembly line

Nice! Congrats my friend. I know it gets annoying when it is stuck in some of the states, sometimes I wish my dealer just told me "4-6 weeks" as I would be on schedule and wouldn't be checking online status' 6x a day, haha!

Anyway, I was originally supposed to be 1/14 PICKUP, moved to 1/17 completion, moved to 1/21 completion, to now I'm just too scared to call!

We'll see how it goes -- my stupid dealer can't figure out how to get me rubber floor mats -- what an a**! And there could be problems flying from LA to SC if the government is still closed in a couple weeks. So I still might end up getting a Trackhawk, or maybe keep this pokey-slow bimmer.

Coming from Jeep, get the extended warranty if you do go Track Hawk. No one cross shops a M5 with a Hellcat, just saying. There is sooooo much more than strait line performance. This would be like getting up from a steak dinner to go buy a Quarter Pounder at McD’s.
