Does 4HB Heated Armrests REALLY delete 494 heated front seats?

Just noticed this caveat in the ordering guide. Anybody know? I don't care about heated rear seats.

Anybody have only 4hb?

That would make sense but the ordering guide says 4HB will delete STD or 100% equipment 494. 494 is heated front seats.

I have both so it's probably a mistake. I would say ask BMW but they likely won't give you a correct answer. I'll find my window sticker and or order form and post it.

Yeah I guess the question is if you order 4hb are you then required to order 4ha to get heated front seats? Or is 4ha really just heated rear seats and the heated front seats always remain standard?

I dont want to pay the $350 for 4ha on the basis of heated rear seats alone. I also dont want to receive a car with no heated front seats.

I think the source of the confusion is due to bad punctuation. 4HB should read "Heated Front Seats, Armrest and Steering Wheel". Therefore getting 4HB would make 494 redundant, which explains why they remove it.

Logically why would anyone want heated armrest and steering wheel, but not heated seats?

BMW should revise the order guide and just have it like the following:
4HA - Heated Rear Seats :: required 4HB
4HB - Heated Steering Wheel & Armrest
STD equip 494 remains unchanged.

Yep, that's what I was thinking. A comma is missing.

The conspiracy theorist in me says that they did this on purpose to sell more 4HA. I have yet to see a car specd with 4HB but without 4HA. Implying that heated front seats are included with 4HA is deceptive.

Absolutely a mistake! You can get both, in fact, they usually come together. Luxury seating adds on to those as well.

Yes, I think you're on target here. In looking at my build on my garage, I see this item under 'added options':
  • Htd Fr Seats Armrests / S Whl

And another line item I see is:
  • Front and Rear Heated Seats

The armrests and wheel heated option includes the default front heated seats. The forced add on is rear heated seats if you spec the front armrest and steering wheel heating. You get front heated seats as a base inclusion on the car. Would have been much clearer if the option for rears was 'Heated Rear Seats' only, with no mention of the fronts.

Are both the left and right armrests heated? On the door and on the center console?

Yes. Its as opulent as it sounds. More impressive is when the passenger side of the armrest is set at a different temp than the drivers side. It gives a new definition of being coddled. All those other pedestrian luxury cars out there with only a single heated armrest. Savages.

Next time you want to impress a passenger in the winter.... Activate their massage seat via voice control and then ask how warm would they like their arm rest to be. At that point you will look like you are sitting in the Master of the Universe seat.

As far as I can see, one can order one of the:
- 494 (front)
- 4HA (front and rear)
- 4HB (front with armrests and steering wheel)

Or you can order
- 4HA and 4HB together (everything heated)

In this case, price of 4HA is reduced by the price of 494. At least in my country.

Honestly, as others pointed out, this is unnecessarily confusing

I use it often in the winter, it's a nice feeling especially on a freezing cold evening, when you're out to dinner, and afterwards have to get back into a cold car that's been sitting outside in negative windchill for over an hour. That's when you appreciate it most.

I had an X5 rental while some work was done on M550i and I got to try out the armrest feature and it is nice. I was surprised how much I liked it. I kept the HVAC temp lower and used the armrest heat. I already have seat heat and steering wheel heat in the M550i.

On another note the US configurator requires you to get both seat heat (F&R) with arm rest heat.

We have it - I thought it was a bogus thing, but I'm surprised how much I like the center armrest to be heated. Especially if you're running around while it's cold but not wearing a heavy jacket (because you know you wont' be outside long).

Agree with those who like "everything heated". I have an F15 (G06, M50i on order) and LOVE the heated steering wheel. Will never have a vehicle without it. I had a loaner for a few days last October that was a G05 with the heated armrests. They were a definite bonus...I ordered everything heated on my G06.

have you figured out how to turn on the heated seats in the rear using voice control? I went into the menu for climate controls and even there, there isnt an option for rear seat heating controls. I hate it when people get in the back and I can turn on their A/C and none of them realize the rear seats are heated and I never can remember which button it is (since I never sit in the back). wtf did we pay for all these features if these people never get to use it??

You can code rear seat heating to come on automatically below a set temperature. https://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...php?p=25608402
