It doesn't really bother me, but I am in the middle of establishing a relationship with a local well-respected vinyl wrapper (pics of first project should be coming in a couple of weeks ;-) and will talk to them about that part. Carbon fibre look for that piece, right?

Always go with carbon fiber on white, nothing highlights the weave in CF better than a white car IMHO

Finding a replacement CF rear diffuser for the G05 X5 with the tow package is likely to be tricky. Wrapping is an option, although it is a complex piece so it's not that cheap. In the meantime, here are few options, please vote or comment on your most favourite and your least favourite.

I lean towards #1 as more consistent BMW diffuser look than the next 3.....another consideration would be to color key the tow hitch and cover so they blend in.....just a thought.

I'd go with 2 then 1. 2 has a subtle contrast. Going darker (3 or 4) make the diffuser looks recessed. But it could be completely different in person specially when viewed at different angles and lighting conditions.

Diffuser color

What did you end up doing?

Did you consider trying carbon fiber vinyl down there as another grey option #1?

Ditto, partially for basic looks (I didn't really want to look like an AMG), partially because that middle piece is the only part that is in exhaust flow and gets pretty hot, and partially because the middle piece prevents playing with more attractive exhaust tips.

But as is, I have these on as well since May 2019. Paint is not peeling from any of it and, as mentioned, only the middle bar gets hot — you can touch the surrounds after a good run, but not the middle piece. Only wear that I notice is the paint of the middle piece has become matte with the surrounds still glossy — so the heat does have an impact, but at least so far, you have to look pretty close to see it. Overall, the simplicity has been worth it. If/when paint peels, I'll remove them and put new ones on.

Here are some pics:
Hi LexxM3 , how are these black out piece holding up after >9 months of use? Thanks!

I haven't done anything yet. Those pics were just "photoshop". LOL.

My wrapper really doesn't want to do that rear diffuser piece, the sharpness of its features apparently make it really hard. He is willing to do it and charge me accordingly, but just a bit apprehensive. And replacing it seems like too much work and there unlikely an aftermarket piece for the North America towing receiver setup. So no progress.
Sorry i wasn't very clear, I meant the OP, ie, the blacked out exhaust piece.

Ah. Seem ok. No chips or anything, but the middle part while still black is notably matte now relative to the outside parts which are still gloss. And I don't think it's soot or dirt, didn't seem to budge with cleaning last time I tried. But you can't see that unless you have your nose to the tips.

Yes, it is a weird anti-feature and all the stick-on versions still have it. I would certainly have much preferred without it and it serves no purpose — the cover is solid metal, integrity would not even slightly be affected without the middle piece.

If I were to ultimately do it, I would probably get both the current dark grey trim and the current white diffuser wrapped in grey carbon fibre to contrast both the white and the black exhaust covers. Thinking still and will aim to match with a likely carbon fibre front diffuser (so will wait until the front is on to match the rear wrap).

Great news! My 2020 X5 M Sport just arrived at the dealer and it looks like BMW has wisely changed the exhaust tip/cover to black! Anyone want to buy the EBay cover I had purchased to adhesive on to mine while awaiting delivery?

In other words, my new X5 was delivered with exhaust tips that look look like LexxM3's up above.

Sorry, not sure how to add a photo!

Did you get the extended shadowline option? This will give you black exhaust tips, black grill, black side vents and maybe some other details I'm missing.
