Not sure if I’ll get to quite 11% on a totally new build vehicle in which case I’ll just have to decide whether to go with a preconfigured build that is close to my desired build in order to get a better deal.

One question - it seems like these deals in this thread are cars that were already ordered but were somehow able to have the configuration changed around. At what point in the process does it become too late to do that?
If you've ordered one you typically can get a status code from the CA which will give you an indication of where your car is along the process. Once it reaches code 150 (Production Started) you can no longer make changes.

You can reference this thread to give you a better idea:

Boy is FORTMILL going to hate me. I just signed a deal for a 19’ M5 for myself. X5 build is for the wife. Now this M5 deal I have the numbers, because it was on the lot! I’m sure he will say it’s a lie in some shape or form.

Ok cool. This seems straightforward but just to make sure I am thinking about this correctly, if a dealer (in NJ, say) has a $500 greater dealer fee than one in another state, then for the same MSRP car the NJ dealer would have to be at a $500 lower selling price compared to the other dealer for it to be an equivalent deal (assuming same incentives etc) right? Or is there some other complication I am not thinking of?

Also apologies for continuing the conversation here rather than my other thread!! I’ll post there once I have final decision made... getting close!

Typically when comparing deals, due to the regional influence of discounts, you would compare deals of the same region. For example, a 6% deal in southern California might not be a very good deal but in Iowa that might be a great deal.

Concurrently, since you compare deals across the same region, it goes without saying that the dealer fees would be the same.

Now if you do happen to be shopping deals nationwide, then I'd say yes, you do need to factor in all fees/costs to determine what's the best deal for you. For example, you may get an extra % discount in a region halfway across the country but if attaining that deal involves you paying $1,500 for shipping, then it's probably of no benefit to you.

Edit: Dealer fees can vary within the same state/region.

Yes makes sense. I am in the northeast - there are like 25 dealerships within an hour or so of NYC but depending on the state the dealer fees are different. That said I’m getting the best offers as a percentage discount from the dealers in NY state which also have the lowest fees.

That is not correct in regards to dealer fees, they can vary widely within the same region. In CO some have no dealer fees while others are $600 or so.

Thanks for the correction. I wasn't aware they varied within the same state.

For whatever it’s worth most dealers I’m talking to are tapping out at 11% which I’ve been told is a steep loser for the dealership but after the bonus for achieving a certain volume becomes very marginally profitable ($100 or so), and they are taking a gamble on achieving that volume number. It seems if you get lucky on the specific dealership and sales situation that if you are one of the last cars to push them over the limit maybe it would be possible to do better since the entire bonus hinges on the last few cars, but also once the dealership is already in the bonus territory it should be impossible to do better than around 11% (assuming this is all true information).

FYI checkout the M5 section as.. like I said prior.. was also working on an M5 for myself (X5 build) for the wife. I completed the deal this morning! I also went to the X5 dealership to sign off on the build, and will be receiving the finance worksheet by the end of the day which I will post as proof for all the non believers.

You’re going to love the M5. I have an M6 convertible that is an absolute blast to drive. The full M cars are a treat.

I did a lot of homework prior. I just knew the one dealer from servicing my wife’s current X5 and they have a reputation of being very aggressive in the area since there are so many BMW dealerships in such a small vicinity. Not to mention many of them are some of the largest dealers by volume in the US.
my i ask where would i get this info? what website?
