Fun, do you have time to wait 4-6 weeks for a new order? If so you can get 10-12 off MSRP plus incentives

Or

Do you “love” the Vehicle on the lot including colors?

Where are people getting 10-12% off an ordered car? Not in my neck of the woods. I would like someone to point me to a dealer in NJ that's doing this. People from all over the US post here so maybe it's different where they live. Alot of people here in NJ and not many M50i around with whats on this build To answer your question I can wait but I have found 0 dealers willing to go 10-12 on a custom order. SHOW ME PLEASE. I'm very eager to hear this.

Fun, here’s my suggestion:
1. Do more research on models, colors and options available. Be 95% confident you know what you want before getting specific on prices. Assume your going to end up at around 10% off MSPR plus incentives. This forum is a great source of unfiltered opinions. Take test drives of engine alternatives and how different options (tires/ packages/ engines ) effect driving comfort, maneuverability, etc. There is no perfect car for everybody. The car on the lot your looking at I would be very comfortable in while my wife would hate it. You just have to please yourself.

2. After you know exactly what you want, try to find on a dealers lot. This is difficult as there are not many X5/M50i produced and the chance of finding in your favorite colors (exterior/ interior/ trim) with your preferred options is difficult.

3. You can order to your exact specifications at the same if not better price if you can wait 4-6 weeks for delivery. This is the direction many of us on this site take, especially if in the market for a 50i.

Good luck.

I appreciate your advice really I do you seem like a very nice guy.

I hear what you are saying and I have configured one on the BMW website there are 0 around here with what I want so yes I can build one.
Still would have to find a dealer willing to discount that % that you are talking about. The dealers around here have none to maybe two on their lot so the builds aren't great. when I asking about building one they want to get rid of what's on the lot, yes on those I could push 10% but I don't like the build.

Yes, like politics all vehicle pricing is local. Larger markets with several dealers tend to be more flexible. You won’t find dealers offering 12% off if they think your just curious. When your ready to write a check and commit to driving home in a new vehicle and give the impression your an informed buyer they’ll get more serious.

If you like the vehicle on the lot meet with the salesperson, tell them your trying to decide on the one on the lot or ordering one.

Let him know your intention is to purchase a new vehicle tonight. Your understanding is the current “market” discount off MSRP on new orders is 12-13% (excluding mfg rebates) and ask if he has the flexibility to offer a similar proposal so you can place a $1,000 deposit tonight.

If you “love” the vehicle on the lot, ask if he can take 12% off MSRP (excluding mfg rebates) if you purchase it tonight. Your already at 8% off MSRP so if you end up at 10% hopefully you’ll be happy.

Hello, longtime lurker but I made an account to reply to you since I'm also in NJ and placed a deposit saturday for an order(although not 50i but an allotment is an allotment right?) It really depends on which CA and dealership you get as well. The first 2 refused to budge over 8% pre-incentives and both had inflated fees when I asked for an OTD price breakdown. The 3rd went to 10.8% after going back and forth a few times and their fee price was the cheapest of the three. I might have been able to do better but honestly I felt like I wasn't getting ripped off too much with 10% from their "more honest" fee so i went with that. Good luck to you

Appreciate any feedback
Since you're getting the most random replies to your original post. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of experience with dealers in your area, I'll attempt to offer some advice.

The dealer is offering you 8% off. As others have mentioned in your thread, you can do better. Prospective M50i buyers have been able to get on average 10% off MSRP before incentives. Some owners have received more but I'd consider those more good timing or an exception since it those were close to end year 2019.

Not sure when you're looking to make a deal but here's a couple of tips to assist:

1. Consider a custom build order with an out of state volume dealer - for example BMW Centers of Excellence dealers in Maryland (dealer fees are capped at $300 in MD). You can either drive down to pick up or have it shipped though the cost savings would be negated.

Or you can opt a BMW Performance Center Delivery (PCD) experience in Greenville, SC if you decide to order from an out of state dealer. Only thing you'd need to do is purchase a flight down the day before delivery. BMWNA covers your hotel stay and meals. Spend the morning driving around the track with instructors, explore the factory then a personal delivery experience with a BMW specialist.

With the above, you're looking 6-8 weeks for delivery.

https://bmwperformancecenter.com/delivery

2. If you want to stay local, email dealers in the area with your build and outline exactly the discount you're looking for. For example start with 11% off. Emphasize your intent for them to make a deal and you're ready to buy. Get a detailed breakdown of fees etc to evaluate.

Below is the information for BMWFS January incentives and residuals:

https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1541151

Sounds like you're looking to finance ($3K credit) and an existing BMW owner ($1250 loyalty).

Hope this helps and peruse the Pricing, Ordering, Tracking subforum to reference some the deals members have been able to negotiate. Hopefully forum members in NJ will chime in provide you info on NJ dealers. If they're not budging locally cast a wider net with out of state dealers. You're spending a big bucks on a luxury SUV, don't settle and order one that's built just for you.

You make a good point. There are really only two variables, dealer discount and dealer fee.
You can’t get overly fixated on the discount %. Anything at 10% is good. I prefer to go with the CA that responded to my questions in a timely and professional manner even on their day off and even if their price isn’t the lowest. For me, it all tends to work out long term.

You are getting 12% off with discount and incentives. It isn't a bad deal if the vehicle is what you want. Honestly, decide if it is worth wasting your time tying to maybe do better (that isn't guaranteed on a custom order). I generally pay $500 over invoice, plus any incentives, don't have to argue or haggle and my SA generally gives $3000+ whatever anyone else is offering on my trade. I am sure I could do better, but my time is more important and I feel that is of more value to me.

Thanks to all who have commented to this thread it's great to hear from everyone and their perspectives.

I will think on this and deceide what works best.

I just wanted to also be clear on an important fact. I hurt my back a couple of months ago and 4 months prior to that I purchased a 2019 Audi RS5 Sportback I fell off a ladder in sept and now the car does not work well for me. This was a 90K car it only has 850 miles on it and I also spent $1500 on a full ceramic coating. So I also have that to deal with. The dealer I'm going to sold us my wife's 2019 X5 but you guys know the deal BMW dealers don't care about my Audi they just want to wholesale the dam thing. I'm very unhappy with all of them. I really don't even know if trading now is the best thing for me to do because I will take a bath on a 90K car. It really is hard to swallow.

I expected this dealer to treat me better being as though we already spent 70K on one X5 but they don't really care.

This is where I'm at, I even sought out dealers who sell both brands BUT not really much difference. I used to have a home out of state and know the BMW dealer there and they want to sell me an X7M50i or a X5M50i but they came back with almost the same % off plus incentives. They told me very clearly we don't want to insult you with your Audi BUT after shopping the car around the best # we could get was $68K. I was are you kidding me but yes that's what we can get.

That's the entire story, I'm kind of stuck with a GREAT car I love but does not serve me well now. At 67 don't know if the back will return to where it used to be.

Thanks again everyone for hearing my long story. I hope I didn't bore the hell out of everyone

I think the deal you have is absolutely fine. Some people get obsessed with % numbers. So how is 9% off - a bad deal and 10% off - is great?
You are saving 1000 dollars or 30 dollars a month on a lease. But wasting yours and dealers time searching for that elusive 1 %. to me time has value.
If you can get 9% plus incentives and pick up the car quickly - go for it.

As for Audi - sell it privately or try car max - you will get more - sadly you will still loose money since it is at the peak of the depreciation for the first 1-6 months of the lot. you can probably drive it for a year and still sell for that same amount.

Update:

I spoke with 8 dealerships today 3 in NJ 1 in VA and 4 in MD none would give me 10% on either a X5M50i or a X7M50i and not one had the build that the dealer that I received 8% plus incentives has in stock. When I asked about a custom order they all said it would not change the % off MSRP and that it would take a min of 8-12 weeks as production is behind on these models??

Called the dealership that offered me the 8% and I'm getting the feeling they are getting a little fedup with me pushing for more off their car. They know what's out there so I think that may be part of the issue. told them I will just build one and they said fine but in 3 months they can't make any promsies about the offer on my car. That kind of makes me really get a bad taste in my mouth with BMW at this point. I really think that the M50i is what the issue is not many around and a trade is not helping the situation. Don't know if I should just take the deal that they offered and be done before the car is gone.

You definitely did your homework and you know you are going to take a bath either way with the Audi. At some point call it a day and just take an ok deal that is local.

If my deal didn't take all of 5 minutes with a dealer only 3 hours away or my option to pick up at the Performance Ctr, then I probably would have gone a quick route too.

This is all splitting hairs in comparison to how much the Audi is going to cost.

You got that right. The Audi will be one expensive lesson. Still gonna try a few more dealers but I doubt it will change to much.

Placed my order for M50i in Dec. 9.5% + incentives also on a pretty loaded build. Honestly they made it quite easy to get to 9.5%, and would go as far as saying the most pleasant car buying experience I've ever had. It sure beats the Lexus experience for my fiancee where the salesman said "you clearly have no experience in buying a premium vehicle" haha.

Maybe could have gone higher than 9.5%, but have the exact car I wanted and many other priorities in life at the same time, so I smiled and moved on. Only took two emails and a phone call on one day.

That's great! Offsets the loss on the Audi a bit more. Let us know what you think of the new ride.

Trading in always hurts, I was offered 37k for ours from 2 dealers for a car that easily sells for 48-50k. Just the way it is.

Wow! Congrats to you. Great work! Was this on the one at dealer or new build? Buy local?
