Meaning of the term "Prod. Date"

Does anyone know for sure what "Prod Date" means? When production starts or when production ends?

My Prod Date is 2020-01-11 and it's killing me to know if prod just started or ended!

I'm in Canada and we don't have a tracking website, but I got the date from www.mdecoder.com with my VIN.

I had trouble finding this information as I am sure it is nested in another post. Sorry for any re-posting.

P.s the website still Says “started production” only.

+1 I also got a PROD date of 1/11 (per M Decoder).

One thing I found interesting is, they can't show a single option on my car other than the exterior/interior colors.

I'm guessing it is possible we all have the same date as I expect most people in this sub forum (like me) are those who have ordered their X5 and are awaiting for any update with the patience of a 2 year old.

God I hate the waiting!

But I wonder if the date is accurate or not...

My understanding is the dates are reasonably accurate; the site is not necessarily “current” and that steps 4 to 10 progress much faster than the snail-like pace of steps 1-3. Mine has been in 3 for a week with completion scheduled for 1/25.

how did you know your completion date was 1/25? where do i get this information? that's all I want. The Genius line told me they're expecting an ETA of week 5 if there arent delays, but they wouldn't as of yet give me a specific date

Is the ETA of week 5 from the recorded line? If so, hold on to speak with a human who can give you more info.

About to find out if it is accurate as I have the recorded line telling me completion is in 3 days (18th) yet still “started production”on website tracker. I was told week 4 build originally when I ordered on 12/30. I will post a thread to track mine after completion just for fun as well.

I also noticed just a few options (color and random stuff not actual options) when I used the VIN decoder which is normal I am sure. However , it was strange to see see engine as B58C , as I thought that was code for a different variation of the engine? Mines a 40. We will see soon

I was happy to see that wheels and brakes were on the list. Not a lot else though. Production Date was the only piece of information I found useful.

B58C is code for X5 xDrive40i or X5 sDrive40i.

FYI, my prod date being 01/11/2020 I noticed today that the BMW drivers Guide will now accept my VIN and download my manual!

Couple days ago that didn't work. Small victories...

That's strange because I have same PROD date, and mine is in "quality check" as of this moment. I still can't get the driver's guide

Please post when you are able to get your Driver's Guide information with VIN and what status your car is in at that point. I think that would help to understand "at what stage in the process" cars need to be for the driver's guide information to be available.

So my car is currently in "waiting for carrier assignment" and I STILL cannot download the guide, nor does connected services work on the phone.

May have an answer to 'What does production date on mdecoder.com" mean or refer to.

Looking at vpegany's post
https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1686936

he posted a timeline and his VIN. Looking at the timeline from the BMW site, production started on Dec 11th and completed before the 23rd.

On mdecoder.com, the production date listed is Dec 20th.
https://www.mdecoder.com/decode/9b98338

That tells me when you look at mdecoder.com and see your production date, that should be after the quality check is done and your car is getting ready to ship. i.e. Production Complete Date

Someone check my logic.

I’m lost. My decoder production date is 1-11-2020. My website shows “ production begins” for 10 days now and when I call the automated line it tells me my estimated completion date is tomorrow 1-18!

I literally have no idea where my vehicle stands.

It'll be over before you know it... I also had PROD date of 1-11 and it's already awaiting carrier assignment now
