PCD... a few questions for those who have been there

I'm very excited to do this but a few questions:

1. How late can you schedule your arrival and still get kitchen food, and not 'bar food with a limited menu'? what is on their 'limited bar menu'

2. I was planning on renting a car and driving up there. Would it be possible for the hotel to send a car to pick us up from the rental car place back to their hotel?

3. I know BMW officially has a reservation for 2 people, but are there two twin beds in the room or two queen beds?

4. around what time EST do they finish everything and get you to your car to take delivery? I'd like to have an ETA so I can plan my trip back home.

Thank you! I'm so excited

1. You can check in at any time. I think dinner is served until 9 or 10. You could call the Greenville Marriott and confirm.

2. I'd imagine so. Typically they pick you up from the airport so there's not much difference in picking you up from a rental car return, heck it might even be at the airport.

3. Both times we did it there was a king but I think you could request 2 queens.

4. You'll finish up around 3PM and be free to go to the Zentrum (museum) or the BMW CCA. Delivery of your vehicle will be complete before 3PM (it may happen in the morning depending how they split the group of you).

I went through all the documentation they sent and all the answers are there.

but to add on to the guy above:

Bed - It's either 2 queen or 1 bed, you fill out a form that tells them your preference. Obviously availability isn't guaranteed.

Rental - You can do 1 way rental (I probably am too), and they tell you to return at GSP airport. It works the same way as picking you up from a flight, just tell them the approximate time. This is also on the form you will out prior to arrival.

Dinner - Dinner is served until 10pm. After 10 they can pre-deliver a deli tray to your room. I think you can make reservation prior to 10pm.

I just checked the flights for my day and there are no non-stop flights to greenville sc. it's only 1 hour more to drive, nevermind any arbitrary flight delays so I guess we'll be driving up there. my only concern at this point is hoping to get there in time to get food and not have to eat a deli tray lol

I'd plan to leave early in that case, and make a late reservation.

Also check your one-way rental prices, as for me it was 4 times the daily amount (if it was returned to same location). But for me it's worth it because I'm visiting a friend in Atlanta and I'm taking my wife there as she's never been to so we'll make a little trip out of it.

I'll keep that in mind but i cant leave as early as I'd like, I have class till mid afternoon and its a 6 hour drive with the time difference. I also can't do anything besides a 1 way rental since there's no one who would feel comfortable driving the distance back the next day alone. but enterprise wants like 50 bucks, which is reasonable i think. I just wish there was a direct flight so I wouldn't have to deal with all this foolishness.

edit: who should I engage to ask about changing my PCD date? my SA or BMW directly? and how likely are they to accomodate the change to an earlier time during the week? I'm currently scheduled for a Thursday, I'd like to change it to a Tuesday (or Friday). I feel like that would be easier for them since most people would want a date later on in the week?

You can only go through your SA. BMW does not have a representative for you.

They are very accommodating from what I've heard, and I was able to reschedule easily. If you come on Friday Feb 21st, you will meet two of us forum members

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to come on the 21st. I would like nothing more than to put faces to avatars, but that's shelf week for me and I cant risk not doing well. My only availability is the week of the Feb 10th-14th. My SA intimated that the date was hard and fast set and there couldn't be changes made. I didn't even know that BMWNA granted up to 10days of leeway. I'll ask him first thing tomorrow if I can get a different day that week.

My CA was resistant to the idea of rescheduling too, but I told him the email clearly specifies 10 business days window. I asked if he wants me to call BMW myself to confirm and then he took care of it

Does the 10-business day window work backwards and forwards, or just forwards in time from the initial PCD date? I didn't get any email. My SA just called me and told me these were the dates that the PCD could be done. I sort of asked if there was any flexibility and he said there wasnt, but then I found out different from all of you. What email was I supposed to get or what can I point to as evidence before speaking with my SA tomorrow about all of these things we've talked about here?

Here is the exactly what BMW sent to my CA, and he forwarded this to me:

After conferring this date with your customer, please inform us via e-mail if they can attend so we can proceed with delivery arrangements on our end. We will then send a confirmation email to your customer. In the event your customer is unable to take advantage of this date, you have the option of canceling the reservation or you can provide us with 3 alternate days that meet your customer’s schedule. Alternate dates should fall within 10 working days (Monday thru Friday) after the original assigned date above. Again, dates are assigned according to your customer’s production number and are on a first-come-first-serve basis and Fridays are typically the first days to fill.

IMHO this is one of the greatest experiences I've participated in and you should give it that chance, too. By spending 6h in a car, possibly arriving too late for dinner, and then having to get a good night's sleep isn't giving it the best chance to be good. I'd fly and give yourself some more time even if it means connecting.

Same here. One way rental, checked in at the hotel, and returned the car to the airport in the evening. They followed soon after and retrieved us in an X5.

We sat for dinner around 8PM and the dinner quality was subpar (and I'm not picky). We were the only ones there at the time of night for the BMW experience and surmised we must have hit a kitchen shift change.

We didn't complain nor did it take away from the PCD experience. Once we hit the course the next day it was all good.

My wife and I skipped dinner at the hotel and hit up downtown Greenville. If you get there in time I highly suggest doing that. A lot of very good restaurants in Greenville - it's a quaint little town.

well i emailed our SA with updated dates to go; we'd actually prefer to do a monday PCD, meaning we'd get there sunday. With that I'd have no issues arriving to SC on time if we drove. I assume their Hotel accomodations run sunday through Thursday seeing as PCDs are monday through Friday?

There ya go. The first time we did it we got there early enough to explore Greenville a little bit. After you check in at the Marriott they will also take you downtown in a new X5 and pick you up when you're ready to go back. Arrive on Sunday and do that, trust me.

welp after getting ridiculously excited over the PCD, BMW was unable to change my PCD to the dates that work (better) for me. So we'll be sticking with out original dates, its just gonna be a bit more hectic for me to get there, but hopefully the traffic gods will be on our side.

The hotel runs accommodations 7 days week. You can extended you stay if you need to, or if you need to arrive early. They'll coordinate with the hotel.

If you decide to spend the evening in the area, I recommend staying in downtown Greenville which is about a 30min drive from PCD.

I stayed downtown for one night, since I was bit exhausted after PCD and left early the next morning. If you need a restaurant recommend and enjoy Belgian cuisine - "The Trappe Door" was quite delicious.

The brand new SpringHill Suites / Residence Inn hotels were a nice modern stay in Downtown Greenville - 2 short blocks from the main strip and dining

I would have loved to but the availability BMW has is only during a time when I cannot leave Nashville. I think we'll have just enough time to get there and get back the next day since its in the middle of the week. Will have to keep your recommendation in mind for the next time we do a PCD
