Door Ding Recommendations
What do folks here do for door dings? I always park away from other cars but I still got hit... As you can see, there is a very small paint chip. Can a Paint-less Door guy fix this or would I have to go to an auto body shop?
Any recommendations/experiences would be greatly appreciated. |

I would find a good paintless dent repair person on Yelp and give it a shot. It costs ~$100. It won't be perfect but it will probably look much better. With paintless, the person just pushes the dent out. It is more difficult on a seam but I think it is possible to make it look a lot better.
The alternative is going to a body shop and painting the entire door, I would not got through all that for just a small door ding. too expensive and repainting can introduce new issues not to mention diminished value when you sell or trade. |

We recently had a ding dent removed with paintless dent repair and it came out flawless. Since it was also on the crease, it took them little longer than normal, but can be fixed. We hired someone that cost more than others, but they were able to guarantee the work to be at least 95% to perfection. When finished, they guy said it was about 95%, but I cant even find where the dent was, lol. cost was about $250, but they came out to us to do the repair.
We did not have paint chip, so that might be a bit of a challenge to fix. I think your best bet is fix the paintless dent removable and get someone (or same guy) to use touch up paint. Repainting/bondo would be super expensive ($600+) and there's a good chance paint will not match. We had mineral white, so we avoid re-painting/bondo at all cost. Hope that helps. |

Use Dr. Colorchip after PDR.

I know they won't remove the dent 100% but if it's close to invisible, I would be happy. |

PDR is a technique used to remove dents. They use rods (and other tools) to push dents out from the inside of affected panels.

Hi RJC, I have some experience with PDR, a close friend of mine owns/operates one of the best firms here in South Florida. Your situation is tricky as it's on a crease or body line. My hope is they can get to that spot in the least invasive manner, which I am sure they can.
I've had it both ways on previous vehicles, where they can gain adequate access to work the metal through a factory opening in the door or by pulling the door card or by sliding down behind the window glass and also had it where they had to drill a small hole in the door jamb and then use an OEM Looking body plug to fill the hole (this usually only happens when then blemish is on a body panel and inside access is close to impossible). Bring your factory touch up paint along, when they are done but a small dab on that chip and you should be sorted. Let us know how it turns out

Good to hear it can be repaired.....door dings SUCK!
VTENGR....yes aluminum is a bit more difficult to work than steel. My experience is it tends to crack and/or you end up with the small dimples from PDR because the ally won't level out as well as steel. I'm no professional though just have a a fiddle with these things in the past! Happy tapping

The door ding is gone; however, there is still the slight indent of the paint chip (which I expected). Overall a good job and I can live with it.
The 1st ding is always the most painful... Ps. They charge a bit more because it is aluminum. Total price after a discount was ~$200. Last edited by RJC; 02-17-2020 at 08:46 PM.. |
