Nevermind the fact that you do touch it when you touch the sun visor, but the leather dashboard option also exists and there's almost no reason to touch the upper dash either but its still a popular option because it looks good and you cant get that in a civic...

Some people care a lot about the aesthetics, others don’t: that’s why these things are called “options.” There is no right or wrong answer to whether they are valuable or not; that will be up to the person that values them.

Meanwhile, in my view, paying for the Alcantara headliner and having a large section of it being another material would be very disappointing. The fact that this is a change for MY21 cars is interesting, but I think we’ve now established that this is indeed a change. And with this knowledge, prospective buyers can at least know what they are buying when they select that option.

For prospective buyers this is good info; however, for the current buyers whose vehicles are being built are unaware of this change. I have not seen any communication from BMW on this material change/tweak - IMO this is unacceptable.

speedyman perhaps your intention is good and you're trying to get your point across, but it sounds bit harsh to be honest. IMO, this is a legit concern especially if this wasn't communicated with the owner.

Same. Could be a sky lounge thing. Mind you, I always have the cover opened showing the pano roof, so don’t really care if it’s mesh or not.

And yes to the point above re: stop/start being really smooth with the 48V battery. It also gives some extra boost when accelerating. There is a graphic in idrive showing when the 48V is being used and when it is being charged.

I can say that I don't care for this connoisseur referring to my brand new '21 M50i as a "farm tractor" because it is not equipped with a bunch of soft guy, cushy, touchy feely fluff.

Most likely an unidentified and undocumented change for international market X5s with option XD5 Alcantara headliner but reserving full XD5 for all market X7/XB7s and X5/6 ///Ms

If I recall option XD5 was removed for USA MY21 X5s 40i and M50i but available only USA MY21 X5 45e's.
