Nice, so how long does it take for you to fully charge now?

And how many kWh did it take? I assume close to 26 including loss?

I am pretty that that's bs. My laptop has a dedicated Ethernet port, and I was able to do some coding in Esys without trouble.

We're going to order ours in March and do this as well. Appreciate the feedback from others on how it's going.

It is NOT BS! I had a 21 kWh range extender update done a few days ago. Being a software engineer I asked Alex from Mission Performance who did my update (I think he does these updates almost exclusively at the company) a few technical questions. The Ethernet to USB/USB-C adapter is absolutely required. When they login remotely to your laptop through Teamviewer, they use a utility called ENET (https://www.incentivespro.com/usb-re...echnician.html). This tool allows one to transfer data from a remote machine through your laptop directly to the car. It only works through USB so direct Ethernet connections won’t work. They basically use your laptop as a sophisticated OBDII interface to transfer their updated firmware to your car. No trace of their firmware is left on your laptop except for enet.exe which you can delete. This is basically similar to what the dealer does when they install updates but in this case it’s being done remotely.

FWIW, the coder may have different tools based on the hardware you have available at your end. It's easier to use what they're comfortable with, and obviously what they support, so verify with them beforehand.

kingmonkeyjr , are you still missing the kWh used in charging history in My BMW app? I have the same issue. It did show for a couple of charging sessions after the update and now not showing.

One Facebook 45e forum member who did the 21 kWh update back in the summer is telling me that the app didn't show kWh usage only a couple of times after the update. Also, I did have an issue before the 21 kWh update with kWh usage not showing at all for the whole month of September so I suspect it's just an app issue.

That's pretty cool. Getting 60 miles on a charge compared to 35 miles is a huge difference. Wow. Only worried about warranty issues - maybe do this after keeping the car for a few months and make sure there are no issues with the battery.

Thanks for the update and doing this.

I would assume flashing to access the full battery pack ends the warranty on the battery entirely.

It will work without issue, but will introduce increased battery wear and BMW won't warranty that additional wear...

But that's true for any mods generally that cause extra wear.

limiting its charging cycles by limiting its usable capacity ensures the battery stays healthy throughout its warranty period (8 years/80,000 miles).

in the EU where they have 21.6kWh of usable capacity, their warranty is 6 years.

charge cycles compared when charged from 0-100%:
full 24kWh = 1 charge cycle
EU 21.6kWh = 0.9 charge cycle
US 17.1kWh = 0.7 charge cycle

the higher the charge cycles, the greater negative effect on overall battery health. for example, if someone in the EU fully charged their 45e from empty twice, it would be 1.8 charge cycles. if someone in the US did that, it would be 1.4 charge cycles.

It has to be said the 45e batterie can be repaired selectively, should that become necessary. There are repair instructions for the 4 big modules, and then again for the individual cell blocks in each module. Won't be cheap due to labor, but apparently can be done by certified dealers - no shipping of complete replacement batteries.

per technical manual (screenshot below), the 45e has 12 modules with each module containing 16 cells for a total of 192 cells.

BMW replaces the entire module even if only 1 cell within that module is defective; they do not replace individual cells. last November, I had 1 defective cell in module 4; that entire module of 16 cells was replaced. so if any number of individual cells are defective in each of the 12 modules, then the entire battery assembly will have to be replaced (worst case scenario, of course, but i know of 2 guys going through it right now here in the US).
