To clarify:

Oil & diff fluid change
Launch control is active from mile 1. The service doesn't "unlock" any extra power or launch control on the car.

Read the manual for break in guidelines. Manual states do not go above 5500 rpm.

Don't bother listening to dealerships, they really don't know the correct info most of the time.

Quote:
Up to 1,200 miles/2,000 km

Drive at varying engine and road speeds, but do not exceed 5,500 rpm and 106 mph/170 km/h.

Avoid full throttle or kickdown under all circumstances.

Exactly. It says so in the technical training papers on the F95/96.
Unfortunately this will not end the argument. There will be people saying, just got my car back from run in service and wow feel that extra power

It's called placebo. There is literally no extra power.

You can unlock full power without going to the dealer. Just need to iDrive controller up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, M1, M2 and Start.

I know for a F A C T I picked up big power the day after the 1200 mile break in service. Dragy verified. Could have been the RaceChip that I installed at 1201 miles.....

Well, I just hit my 1200 mile break in and I was scheduled for this Thursday to be serviced. I just got a call from the service manager stating that they're out of the fluid nation wide and they can't do it yet... He didn't specify if it was the engine or diff fluid, but I didn't ask because either way I'll have to wait.

Has anyone ran into this issue recently?

Yes. Happened a lot during Covid supply chain issues but has been a while since anyone reported shortages that I have seen. Any time an SA makes such a sweeping statement “out of the fluid nationwide” they are usually full of crap. If you are concerned, call a few dealers. My guess is you will find it on your first call. Just had mine done last month.

I got the same line a month or two ago. The guy made a bid deal of it on the phone e.g. it could be a few months’ wait, need to escalate to BMW etc. Within a day they called back, “we have the fluids, when can you come in?”

This happened to me w my X3MC,dealership said just continue to drive the vehicle. I said,"fine as long as you document that statement in the service records in case there is an issue w the diff down the road". They replied,"If you're leasing don't worry about it. If you purchased, just don't beat on it too much until the fluid arrives".

I made a stink about it,the general manager gave me his personal X7M50i to drive til the fluid came in. Fluid showed up from Germany 3days later.

X7M50i is a friggin tank

Haha. For real?! I just assumed it’s BMW label on a name brand bottle oil. It’s s little baby bottle too. The dealerships are at a loss and just letting people drive on thr diffs instead of figuring out what brand the oil is? Hahaha. Wild. I don’t see any issues from that to be honest tho. Just funny. Mediocrity SA and inexperienced book following mechanics maybe. .

Extra power is you can now rev past 5500, lol. Max power is actually past 5500, so they are ‘kinda’ right in a wrong kinda way.

Interesting. My dealer was quite explicit that they did not want me driving the car precisely because of concerns about damage and warranty such that they were about to have me come in to pick up a loaner car when the fluid came in.

Team, question: I have a new to me 2023 X5MC that I bought with approx 2,300 miles. Looking at the carfax, it states that it had a "Vehicle Service" at 1,527. Underneath this "vehicle service" label I see: Wheel Alignment. I dont see anywhere where fluids were changed. Is this something I need to go to the dealer for them to tell when whether the break in service was done or is there anywhere in the vehicle I can see this?

that should be it - you can also ask the dealer. If not - just bring it in and they do it

Thanks for the advise, went to the dealer this morning and it checks out -- break in service done. All is pending now is an oil/filter change in Jan 24 which he stated I can schedule already.

My dealer says they're still waiting on the diff fluid being on backorder. I find this to be a little crazy since it's been a couple months for myself and no telling how long before that.

Correct a M car can’t be CPO’d if the M break in service is not performed by 2,000 miles—which is firm number (BMW NA executive customer service informed me of this in the past). Can also void the engine warranty if break in not performed by 2,000 miles.
