FWIW I didn't snatch up a '23 X5 because I'm reluctant to change to the buttonless world, it's that I've been living with no buttons for several years now in my daily driver and I hate it more now than when I started. Simple things like changing the temperature feel extremely clumsy and I'm so happy to not have to deal with this every day.

the X5 is still a fantastic vehicle and I'm sure you'll love it but comparing crank windows to power windows to removing buttons are not a good comparison. a crank was replaced with a button. The button required much less effort than the crank. it made it easier to accomplish that same task without any significant downside.

removing the window button altogether and forcing me to use the idrive menu lower a window or with voice assist unnecessarily complicates the task with significant downsides.

Scary story.

Driving home on i95 tonight, look in my rear view mirror, and see what I think is a brand new x5 - alpine white with sport pack (like mine). The front bumper is black. The mirrors are What I think M5 ( and I think i see the M logo in the ‘radiator’ grill ( Google radiator you damn millennials).

I want to see it! Gotta be one of the first ones off the line. Move over a lane to let it pass, it passes/I wave/. It’s an X3 m40.

So disappointed..in myself and of course the LCI 😹😹

Why do millennials need to Google radiator? I'm a millennial and know what a radiator is. You're clearly confused and must be thinking about Gen Z instead.

Yes. I’m waiting for the Cayenne S or will probably do the PHEV. It’s a bit more than the X5 but I can’t see myself without any buttons. Feels unsafe.

Having the same options as in X5 you will end up paying $10000 for every extra Cayenne button

Was going to trade my X5 F15 for the new X5 with my local dealer who had a status 111. As I sat in some 7's and X7s in the showroom, I couldn't warm up even in the least to the curved screen, missing buttons and gear shift lever (yikes), and the new front end "design" M Sport or otherwise. I competed the paperwork for the '24 X5 but back out at the last signature. Instead, I located a new '23 x5, equipped exactly to my liking (pic below), and will pick it up next week. Still paid MSRP but, not too many M Sports left...pickings are slim but at least it ended up about $3K less than the equivalent '24. So, no LCI for me this time(lol).

It's funny how tastes can be so different. Ever since I enjoyed having no shift lever in the W222 S-Class (that was in 2008 I think) I wanted to have the lever gone in my daily as it was taking up way too much real estate for a function that could essentially be handled by a button. So I was delighted to see that it was finally gone in the X5 LCI as it is still annoying me in my 7-Series when I have to "drop" my phone in the space behind the lever.

To each their own... It’s such a small improvement to have the vertical space taken away. It’s not like they put in on the steering column. It still takes up space and it’s not like you’re going to put something on top of it. So yes the only single benefit is slightly improved access to the cup holder... I’ll gladly take the shifter that I can rest my hand on, grab and looks like it belongs rather than something I’m pinching with my fingers to change driving gears, this just feels out of place to me.

As others have said it’s very interesting how the shifter can either be a good change or not. Personally since I was a kid I was told to not rest your hand on a manual shifter to prevent long term wear (never fully understood at the time) but even now on my manual F80 I never rest my hand on it and cringe when I see people doing it.

But since getting my first car with buttons in place of a shifter (2022 Tahoe) I actually really like not having a lever which is only used ver seldomly on a A/T car.

I like it. With the beautiful screen on the driver side, the passenger side would look like a dark corner without some illumination. This is obvious from design point of view. And I like the way I may choose the color and intensity. And it will look great with the sky lounge. Everyone is entitled for private opinion, and as I said I like it much better than previous generation (that is why I waited for a few months to get the redesigned interior in the first place).

That makes sense it’s just not for me. I find it to be horribly ugly compared to the current gen. To each his own.

with the fairly sizable price hikes, higher interest rates, and for me - lack of compelling color choices (40i), I am starting to wonder if it is worth it...

Granted the only true competition for this is the Cayenne and that's about to get an even larger price increase.
