Some might find this helpful to better understand the root cause. My take on this issue is Magna's hide supplier either isn't doing something to spec, or there's an underlying issue with the material spec. Maybe too much value engineering? Or Magna production line isn't taking steps to warm the stretched material to remove wrinkles.

Only BMW engineering and Magna knows what's really the problem. How quickly they resolve it tells us just how nimble they are.

From your link, "By adding moisture with water and the use of heat, these wrinkles in a Porsche Cayenne were removed ". Wondering if the same method can be applied to X5

Mine are not perfect, certainly worse than the previous gen, but I am at least happy that they do not look bad. To the above poster....OMG, no no no.

I have some leather installation experience since I use to install leather kits to the main car dealers in Costa Rica for many years
The use of steam on leather is first to make it easier to fit against the seat foam, that way (heated) is easier to install, also steam can help remove small wrinkles maybe caused by packaging or other reasons
But for wrinkles like we have seen, there is no way you will make them disappear using steam or other technics because those wrinkles are the result of bad sewing, I’m sure this wrinkles were designed intentionally by BMW, the problem is the execution.
Not an expert, is just my personal opinion from more than 800 kits installed, I still use my steamer to deep clean dirty leather instead of using chemical products

Bingo, you nailed it. IOW the wrinkles are due to either sloppy work, poor staff training, hiring cheap unskilled labor....whatever. The consumer needs to reject such sloppy "workmanship" by refusing a car with such wrinkles.

Recent thread showed an entire corner of a front seat off it's frame. It's laughable.

Seats are the best and most comfortable I have seen in a BMW

My family all loves the wrinkly seats. Say they are way more comfortable than 2016 X6.

Family loves them I love them.

Has anyone in the US refused delivery of an ordered car because of wrinkled rear seat? What was the reaction of the dealer and what was done? I anticipate delivery next week and am prepared to refuse delivery if the rear seat has excessive wrinkles but I don't know what to expect from the dealer. Thanks.

Yes. Very easy to do. Lots of YouTube videos on how to do it. Best to do it when warm out.

just this very minute, had a call with dealer and rejected my car, no issues, (he said he expected me to)

asked me to either give him a few hours so he can check the stock levels for another M50D as i do not want a 30D, or spec a new one online and send over.

Sad to hear that.....

I wonder if BMW will take action on this issue, sounds ridiculous to lose a car sale because such an easy to fix issue?
The competition will be very happy making this problem viral for sure

i believe they wont be taking action, as they have received "3 more in similar condition"; so BMW are not acting, i advised him the internet is rife with articles advising BMW changed their seat manufacturer because of "issues with leather".. he was lost for words.....

so sadly rejected as felt had no other choice... but he has warned if replacement arrives the same... may not have much room for negotiation after.

Sure they can send a replacement leather cover.
I had my former M4 backrest leather replaced under warranty due to premature wear.
I think everything depends on the goodwill on the part of the dealership if they really want to help you or not

I'm anticipating a call any day that mine is ready for delivery. Fingers crossed that the rear seat will be ok. If not I am at a loss about what to do.
