Go with the M50i. Best of both worlds.
Side note, what did you think of Mineral White?

Yes - the m50 might be the sweet spot in the lineup, if you don't mind carrying the extra weight over the front wheels. Ironically I feel like sometimes going with the smaller engine actually improves the agility and sporty feel of the car.

In general I'm not a fan of white on cars - although the white/red combo is always a classic.

I think on the Ms some of the more unique colors (Dravit Grey, Manhattan Green, etc) really look the business to bring out the lines and aggressiveness of the package. Black is always a winner for me as well.

That extra weight is offset big time by alot more power. Alot more. In fact it's night and day. You can't compare the m50i with the 40i different cars all together. Honestly if you have to think about it hat hard and aren't sold on the idea of having that awesome engine then the car isn;t for you or you can't justify the added expense are are now looking for ways to convice yourself that that cheaper car the 40i is some how just as god or almost as good?

I can understand if you feel the full M is too raw and harsh for you. It isn't for everyone. But if you were considering that type of car and then in the next breath you are able to consider the regular x5 then somethng isn't right lol sorry.

I think you would be happy with the M50i. The M seats in the X5M and X6M are really uncomfortable for a lot of people due to the side bolsters.....none of my other M cars' seats were anywhere remotely as uncomfortable as my X5M ones (and I'm 6'1" 175 lbs....so it's not a size issue). That was one of the many reasons I sold my X5M.....the harsh ride was another. Again, none of my other M cars have ever been so harsh. Neither of these will be issues in the M50i. You also will never get the full power and handling in the X5M versus a normal M car just due to the fact it's a SUV and has a way higher center of gravity. The X5M just didn't really do it for me....I wish I had driven one for a few days before I bought it originally.

I find the seats in the x5m fantastic actually. I’m 6’3” 225 in good shape and they fit me like a glove. As far as performance suvs go this is one of the best. It is s real M but in suv guise. It’s not a car and never will be. Everyone should know That before buying it no? You don’t buy this expecting it to feel line an m5 do you? I expected an m5 feel but in an suv. And that’s exactly what I got. Perfect.

Focused on the M50i now - should be best of all worlds. Might have a new car on my hands shortly here ... Thanks!

a new x5 m60i can be speced with both DHP and Air Suspension correct ?

How does a m60i with dhp & air compare to an x5m ride quality and handling wise ?

the x5m does not have rear active steering correct ?

This is unfortunately not correct. It can be DHP or Air Suspension, but not both. There was an early copy of the build sheet sent to dealers in early February that incorrectly allowed this combination. You have to pick one or the other.

You are correct that the X5M does not have rear steering!

I currently drive a 2020 X5 M50i. great vehicle. love the air suspension. I find it's pretty tame in adaptive mode, where I have it coded to be on start up. When I put in Sport+ mode. car drops down a bit with air suspension and you really feel the difference with engine and trans in sport mode. I have a order for a 24 LCI X5MC. cant' wait.

Took delivery of my 24 X5M last Saturday and couldn’t be happier with the ride. You won’t be disappointed!

Hummm...looking at the online configure..DHP variation is standard and one can select either Air Suspension or Adaptive M Suspension Professional.

Standard features --
Integral Active Steering with rear-axle steering
Dynamic Damper Control
Adaptive M Suspension with electronically controlled damper
M Sport Differential

Just to follow back around on this thread - found a perfect spec, fully loaded, barely used '23 Dravit Grey M50i. No DHP on here. I have never driven a BMW with DHP , but several reviewers called out the car unstable / twitchy at higher speeds so I actively seeked to AVOID it in mine (X5 specifically).

Suspension in comfort seems a BIT too loose / floaty for my liking on here. In Sport it is just about perfect. Gives enough road feel, especially on 22" wheels.

Loving the car so far, definitely a different feel then the Audis I drove last 10+ years.

Torque is awesome (didn't know it was same as X5M). Car feels more special then a 40i, but without the unwanted jittery/nervous ride for me of the X5M.

Did more of my thoughts/write up here for anyone interested. Thanks for all the help around here!

Depends on your goals.

M50 is cushy and sorta fast. Nice inside. Looks good.

X5MC is killer sporty. Very fast. Not as cushy. MUCH MUCH better handling. Killer looks.

If you want a HotRod suv , buy the X5MC.

If you want a BMW , Lexus soft, suv, buy the M50

Both great rides.

Love it! Great and to the point! That’s why I’m ditching my ‘23 X5M50i for the ‘24 X5MC!

After a week with the M the only thing I don't like is the freeway noise. Pretty loud out there, enough so that your stereo has to be turned up to too loud to overcome it. By too loud I mean louder than you want it to be but you have no choice if you want to hear music.

Other than that it's been a pleasure to own. Every errand can be an adventure...
