Well after alot of faffing around, i finally place my order for 50e

Well, i finally placed my order for a 50e today. Ironically on the day there apparently is a stop sale on the 50e.

First it was the iDrive 8.5 shenanigans and then the drive train malfunction issue that stopped me from putting a order in. In the end, i figured it will get sorted out.

This will be my 4th X5. My first was a 2009 X5 35d (diesel) which i kept for over 11 years and 160K miles. I loved that car. Then two F15s. My current 2018 F15 40i is very nice and has the Mocha Interior Design Package which includes full Nappa seats and dashboard, so i'm a bit spoiled.

Week 33 Production

My order:

50e M-Sport

Carbon Black
Black Merino Interior
Fineline Black Wood (it was the best of the worst. I hate all wood trims)

Packages:
Driving Assistant Pro Package
M-Sport Package
M-Sport Pro Package
Parking assistant package
Executive Package
Climate Comfort Package

Options:
21" 741M Wheels
M-Sport Blue Brakes
Trailer Hitch
Multi-contour seats
Anthracite Alcantara headliner
Front Massaging Seats

I did get some discount but it was tough.

Still lets hope they sort out the 50e drivetrain issues. Thats the most important thing.

BMW has stopped the selling of the 50e starting today. the official reason hasn’t been published yet. stopping the sales ensures nothing defective is assembled at the factory since there are no 50e chassis on the line due to none being sold and queued for production

The stop sale is not exclusive to the 50e, it seems like it various G0x models dealing with an air bag.

Do you know what production week you got? I placed an order for 50e yesterday - pretty much the same spec as yours except Dravit and 915M. The CA said likely week 30 but I called Genius this afternoon and they said week 32.

I went with Sensafin after touching and sitting on both at the dealer. Just felt like there was more "give" and just overall more comfortable. And really couldn't justify the extra $2k for leather when the Sensafin is so nice. Here's what I spec'd:

50e M-Sport

Dravit Grey
Coffee Sensafin
High-gloss brown (but thinking of switching to fineline black while i'm still at status 111)

Packages:
Driving Assistant Pro Package
M-Sport Package
M-Sport Pro Package
Parking assistant package
Premium Package
Climate Comfort Package

Options:
21" 915M Wheels
M-Sport Blue Brakes
Trailer Hitch
Multi-contour seats

Nice, yea that is very similar ! I went with the fineline black because it seemed to match the center lightstrip piece of the dash better than the other trims. Although, the carbon fiber and the piano black trim options are other good choices, but not available on the 50e in the USA.

I'm with you on the lesser of four evils on the wood trim. I hate them all and can't understand why we don't get the better options in the USA. The 40i models also only have wood options.

I had an F15 with the Mocha Nappa as well, and I completely agree with you--that was a special leather package. (It was way more than the current "Little Bit of Merino" offering on the G05.)

My 50e is basically a sister ship of your build (CB M-sport w/ all the packages), except I did the regular 20s, red brakes, no trailer hitch, and Silverstone Sensafin.

Yes, "Sensafin" and I'm very happy with it. Like you, I had thought to change my order to Merino multiple times (my last 45e had the Merino leather), but I saw Sensafin at my dealer and was impressed, mainly because I was thinking it would be like Sensatec, which is rubbish.

Unless BMW offers a full leather package in future X5s (like the Nappa in the F15), I can't see myself getting Extended Merino, which is basically a few swatches sewn into the seat surfaces.

Also, regarding trim, I have the Fineline Black, and initially I was annoyed I couldn't order Carbon Fiber on the 50e, or even an aluminum variant, but I must say, I'm increasingly liking the Fineline Black.

I just called my CA and swapped from Brown High Gloss to Fineline Black. Whole heartedly agreed on your thoughts about Sensafin, I was pretty impressed because I was used to Sensatec in my X3.

Watched this video last night (BMW X5 xDrive 50e M Sport - Brooklyn Grey with M Performance Parts) and am pretty jealous about some of the options EU folks get but not us in the US - especially B&W! Hopefully they bring some of these to US soon.

Good move, IMHO.

Here's a mediocre image of mine, including my awesome collection of shopping bags in the door storage:

Oh yea, that looks really nice. '

Someone posted a picture of the Cognac sensafin seats with the fine line wood black trim and it looked great. I would have being quite tempted by that but I do a lot of mountain biking and the light colored seats would get all messed up in no time.

Did you opt for the massage seat option by any chance? Thats another one I'm still debating on ...

If you’re not familiar with BMW massaging seats, know they do not vibrate. I think “massaging” is a misnomer. they undulate and keep blood flowing and relieve pressure in the dependent areas. in this respect, they perform well but won’t relieve sore muscles

I did.

I had them in my 45e, too.

I'm fully aware they are not a substitute for a 200-lb Thai woman walking all over your back for $15 on the beaches of Phuket.

But on a trip that's more than 20-30 minutes, I really enjoy them.

Think of it as the back lumbar support changing its pressure constantly, from a medium to a very firm, and moving around to different parts of your back.

But no, you won't feel like you just left a day spa.

I tried them today and i was actually quite impressed. They seemed to be quite effective for me. I quite liked the shoulder massage so I think I may add them to my order.

I am sticking with Sensafin. I looked at the Merino leather seats but was put off by the seat pattern. It looks like something you would sit in if you were 100 years old. I think the Sensafin pattern looks much more modern and interesting.

I have been in the same boat. Spec I’m considering is

50e
Skyscraper grey
Black Sensafin
Fineline black wood trim
Adv Driver Assistance
Essential Package
M sport
LED lights
It’ll look something like this:
