I might actually go back and put a coat of semi-gloss black engine paint on it since that would match better with the surround.

Also, doing this with cans is harder than just using an airbrush, where you can be very precise. I got a Paasche H-3MH for $60.

Just brought my car to the dealer, replacement is covered by warranty, but just curious what others have experienced in terms of the replacement part.

I have attached the replacement offered- shadow line trimmed on the outside and regular chrome on the inside. Compared to the old defective part -- the inside is painted dark gray.

Just curious what replacement you guys were offered?

My concern with the replacement is that the inside will not age well.

Hey, how did you remove them? Was it difficult? Mine are also showing peeling so want to powder coat them

So mine were replaced under warranty.

They no longer make the ones w/ the dark coating on the inside. Now it's chrome without the coat.

Hmm okay. I was going to powder coat my wheels so figured I’d do that as well but figuring out how to remove it and if it’s difficult or not

The silver on my 24 X5 was driving me nuts. I sprayed them this weekend using semi-gloss high-temp engine paint. Turned out great. Hopefully, they hold up well. Figure I may need to respray them in a few years, but we'll see.

The silver on the inside of the exhaust ports and the chrome model trim are a big miss by BMW for those of us that spec'ed the M-Sport packages.

Yes! Looks great! Hopefully you also used a few coats of self-etching primer first or I'd worry about potential longevity. Mine are still looking the same after 14 months now.

It is silly that BMW lazily releases these with unpainted stamped steel but of course makes them overly complicated to remove along with the "trim" pieces.

I have to assume BMW's laziness is inevitably heading towards just having fake exhaust trim and the actual pipe just dumping out below like MBZ and Audi.

Has anyone swapped out the peeling exhaust surrounds themself? I can’t seem to figure out how they are latched on, but I imagine they should come out pretty easy?

not easy. what should take 20-30min doesn’t because there’s areas that are difficult to reach. folks report taking a couple hours with recommendation of bumper removal

I can't picture using a rattle can or spray......the mindset of overspray will just want to have at least from passenger door panels and everything backwards from there taped off.

I've considered this slightly as the exterior of the tips of mine is just fine and the inside is -just starting- to peel a smidge.

I’m having the same issue on my ‘22. Getting them replaced under warranty. My shop is being cool about letting me get them powder coated before they install them.
