It is NOT a hybrid. Half the people here seem to misunderstand this.

Yeah the way I see it, this is just BMW trying to keep the V8 alive for a bit longer. I don't think you will be able to tell from actually driving the car since there are little to no performance benifit. If its like my wife's Q7, it just allows for better start stop (debatable...) and things like shutting off the engine from a higher speed when slowing for a stop, keeping the power steering active even when the engine is off because of start stop, keeping the A/C & heating on longer after engine cuts...stuff like that. Plus it should help for cars in very cold climates as there is more "juice". My M2 gets a low battery warning if it sits for 2-3 days in the freezing cold...

All we know its the same s68 used in M cars and M60 cars now. We know BMW is moving research towards Hybrid engines. Full M cars will have a Hybrid power train as seen in XM vehicle. It means heavy battery, big weight increase for the car in general, less space and much higher complexity. Again look at XM info M760 mild hybrid is still a mystery. but still born from the same hybrid engine development. https://www.bmwblog.com/2022/03/23/2...ode-spy-video/ |

I hate the idea of introducing a new, more complex S68 engine and have the same exact horsepower as the previous S63 engine.
The fact that it will have a heavy battery and such means it will be slower. Get your S63 while you can boys. Less complex, more aftermarket and probably faster. The S68 should have came with 700 HP. They are just using LCI's are test mules for data and to see relilability before it will be put into the next chassis X5/X6/M5/M8 |

Conventional wisdom says never be an early adopter of a new model/engine. Let the engineers work out the issues first. Who wants to be a part of the test mule crew? On a 100k plus vehicle...

This engine needed 700+ hp I agree with that. Other wise what's the point? I know why they did it, but to the end user/consumer we don't care about that bs.

Dual all-electric motors with a total power output of 610-hp and 811 lb-ft of torque In IXM60 is only a 3.5 zero to 60mph and 11.9 1/4 mile. Not impressive.
