Got it installed today. Will post pictures soon. No welding necessary for SS if you're ok using the clamps provided.

This was NOT a direct bolt on though and required quite a bit of work for the install which wasn't clear when buying from GCA. A shop is HIGHLY recommended.

Mine was supposed to be installed today and I had more issues. The 2 front pieces that GCA welded flanges on didn’t fit, they weren’t welded at the proper angle. Lessons learned on this exhaust: titanium is not something most exhaust shops will weld unless it’s a more custom performance shop and the install gets really pricy. I think at this point I’m going to return the titanium and have them ship the SS system so my shop can properly fit and do a full weld install. The control box is another thing the exhaust shop won’t touch and need to take it to another shop to get that installed as the exhaust shop doesn’t want to deal with the splicing into and accessory wire in the trunk.

Here's a video link. I still need to install the control box but that should be pretty easy as the rear has a fuse box. I'm going to see if it has a second 12v that I can use or if I'll need to splice into the rear 12v.

https://youtube.com/shorts/26nA4PmSeiI?feature=share

With having it on for a few days now here are my initial thoughts:

What I like with valves open:
-Deep sound (surprisingly a lot of this can be controlled within idrive with engine sound by controlling the drop of RPMs causing the burble)
-Reasonably quiet when in comfort/eco as it shifts so quickly.
-Downshifts in Sport Plus went from little burbles to something closer to thunder (it was the first thing that came to mind)

What I don't like with the valves open:
-It can be a little raspy at a higher RPMs when shifting.

What I like with the valves closed:
-EXTREMLEY quiet at start up

What I don't like with the valves closed:
-Almost, too quiet...

Here's a pic of the back end with the carbon tips. They stick out a bit farther than I want and this is EVEN AFTER I CUT THEM BACK...

Sounds good but the amount those tips stick out is unacceptable in my opinion. Clearly these guys did not do any test fitting of the product during the design amd development phase and instead just did back of the napkin math/sketches…

I have to agree. In total I had to make 6 cuts for the fitment. AND... There were 2 shorty pipes left over that weren't used....

I'm hoping to work with them to get new L pipes so they don't stick out as much. I'm going to be cutting the ends of the exhaust tips to sink it back another half inch but that will be as far back as it can go because the exhaust tip starts to hit the bend in the pipe...

Wow, what a mess. Hopefully they’ll work with you on it.

Hi,

I'm new to the forum and owner of a BMW.

I have a 2020 X5 M Sport, and looking to see if there is a way to baffle the exhaust so that it is not so loud when I start it.

The problem I have is that I live in suburbia and leave for work at 5:30am. The X5 isn't extremely loud, but loud enough. The neighbours haven't complained yet, but it is only time 😁.

Any thoughts on how I reduce the startup decibels?

Thanks,

Peter

+1

My setup with 4" quad tailpipes sticks out at least 1 1/2" less.

This sound is pretty good. Better than the night runner setup for my ears.

I purchased the SS valved system from GCA, which was sold as a "bolt on" system. This is not the case, the flanges needed to be welded on, alignment issues, pipes had to be cut down. This install took 10.5 hours at a BMW specialist shop. We reached out to GCA to question how they advertise this as a bolt on which is misleading, they offered 250$ credit back which covers an hour of install.

As of yet i am quite unimpressed with the sound quality, it does not sound much different than stock for the 5k + cost of purchase and install. Currently looking into other options to improve upon the sound (downpipe, valve override etc). I dont want to flash tune the vehicle as its a lease.

Any insight or advice to improving this would be appreciated as im quite novice mechanically.

Overall not impressed with GCA, would not recommend this product, i would wait for more R+D to be done by some of the bigger outfits to make this vehicle sound as it should.
