My armchair analysis put Oscar slightly ahead of Lando... Should be another McLaren 1-2 anyway, unless they sorted out the rear balance of tu tu du du Max Verstappen's car. Which I think is very much a possibility.

I've never really paid attention to Oscar, is he really a #2 to Lando?
And to me, Lando is at best, as good as Sainz likely slightly worse. I don't think he's anything particularly special.

As far as the RB - still in the Hunt to be the strongest car, but I think McLaren is right there.

Piastri is a force to be reckoned with. Collected - ad rem - no drama antics. Norris realizes that he must give his level best to keep 'new kid on the block' Piastri in his mirrors. Increasingly irritating 'the powers that be' at McLaren by clouding Piastri's first GP win, was awkward coping behavior with the new reality by Norris. Both McLaren and the F1 world have seen and heard it.

It's a good thing for F1 that things get spiced up. McLaren has clearly improved its race package (Mercedes and Ferrari too, but not as significant as McLaren) - let them rain on RBR's parade. More close combat action and nervosity on track.

Spa-Francorchamps is one of Verstappen's favourite circuits. A 10-place grid penalty, starting from P14, didn't stop him to win the 2022 race. But that was August 2022 - now it's July 2024 with more papaya presence. You can bet that Verstappen will try to quickly move through the field on his way to a podium finish. Throw some changing weather conditions and yellow/red flags into the mix on this 7km track and we may be set for some interesting action in the Ardennes woods this race weekend.

We should hopefully see a different MAX car at Spa, (with a new engine still to be confirmed by the team) if not then RBR as a team have only themselves to blame for the Newey and Wache situation that is indirectly responsible for the cars loss of pace and MAX losing an engine at Canada from his 4 allowed that could not be repaired also puts added pressure on the team.

Trying to look into FP1 times is always no good. Max has a good gap there but Alex is also in P3…

Max will be taking a 10 place grid drop for ICE allocation though so think that removes hope of fighting the McLaren’s for the lead this week.

Good start to the weekend it appears given this is only FP1 and a good foundational setup. Max's advantage was all in S2...which says that despite running more wing he is as quick as anyone else in S1/S3. And that's not even taking into account the RB's detuned engines.
