Locking doors while car is running
Only day 3 with the car. I'm sure there is a setting or something.... Still learning all the features/settings.
I don't have BMW connected features in Europe, on a US spec car. So, I can't connect with my phone, download apps, etc. Just a part of being in Europe I guess. Every morning, I go out and start my car to let it warm up in the driveway. Then, I get out and go back in the house. If I try to lock the doors, the car gives off two loud HONKS.... at 7am.... and I'm pretty sure the neighbors don't like it. Is there any way I can lock the car from the outside, while it's running..... with just a simple "beep" sound?? If the car is off, it just gives a beep when I lock it. Why does it HONK when it's running?

It’s a more recent ‘feature’ on BMWs with comfort access, to stop you accidentally leaving the engine running when you lock and walk away from the car. I’ve coded it off on my other cars busing Bimmercode but the app doesn’t support the X5 yet for this particular feature.
So what you can do it physically hold the key fob on the glass of the front screen then press the lock button. This way the car seems to think the key is within the car and locks the doors without the honk. Give it a try, works all the time for me a saves irritating neighbours on cold mornings! |

Crappy BMW "genius" spent a whopping 15 minutes with me.... half of that time was me teaching HER how to adjust the ambient lighting colors, because she's never seen it.

I think they basically only know how to create a connected drive account and how to pair with the car. And even that didn't work. Had to call CD helpdesk. I wonder if any geniuses are frequently visiting this forum. Should be a great help for them. |

the guys at the PCD know what they're doing. My mom had a primary CD account which I was using on my phoen with her login which didn't matter on the f15 but you need separate logins for the g05. He quickly showed me how to set up a secondary CD account. He knew everything I asked him, I was pretty impressed with his depth of knowledge.

Question: Why are you warming up your G05? Is it for your comfort or do you think the engine needs it? |

Me being the dumb ass I am...I decided to leave the car running and taking the FOB with me instead of doing remote start. Not even 2 mins, my alarm kept going off. I stopped it, but 10 seconds later...boom.
I had no idea there was a motion alarm inside, but once the vehicle shuts off...it seems to activate. I just remote start and let it be now. |

Vtengr and randy..... neither is the case for me. I do need to go out and try the remote start though. If that works, it will no longet be an issue.
Will it remember the last heat and seat heater settings? |

Heat - yes, seat heater no. However when I remote start, and its cold outside, my steering wheel and seats are warm by the time I get in.

There are some rules you can set to turn the seat heaters on along with the steering wheel and the ventilated seats. They have temperature limits, so you can have it only turn the seat heaters on when the temp is below a certain point that you can adjust.

I remember once you started driving, you need to be inside to lock it. That trick on the glass may work. Some cars let you lock when you use the physical key and lock it. Haven't tried on G05. I personally would not want the car to give me this option. It's not safe imo. On the other hand, if you have not driven yet, you could use remote start. Once started, you can go in, go out, lock, and the car is still happy running. Just don't press "Start" until you're ready to go.

I think this feature would be great. For me, in NY, if I ordered take out for pickup, I can leave the car running while going inside to pick up the food. NY is not the safest, so ideally, I'd like to lock the car for the 30 seconds that I am in there to pay or whatever, while its still running.

I have a U.S. MY21 45e. It does not require any coding to allow me to lock the vehicle after exiting it with the ICE running. in fact, it confirms with 2 beeps of the horn.

This is one of the beauties of the 45e...all HVAC functions are electrical, so no need to keep the 'engine' running...there's a menu option to tell it to stay on that pops up when you shut down to keep that going.
