There are no audio specs in the superficial iDrive 7.0 manual. However, the 2020 Porsche Cayenne owners manual, downloadable through the Good To Know app in either Android or Apple, shows that Porsche are still using the same, obsolete DAC they have used for years that compresses all audio to 320kbps. BMW probably are using the same or worse, obsolete DAC.

The old solution to bypass the poor quality DACs used by the entire auto industry was to plug an audio player into an analog aux input. A $30 audio player has a far superior DAC to a new BMW, Porsche, Mercedes or Lexus. Since there no longer is mass market demand for aux inputs, the car manufacturers have deleted them to save money. Now there is no solution to avoid forced audio compression. You can play through B&W, Burmester, Mark Levinson, et al., but only with a degraded source.

If I only want to replace the speaker covers BaW with the original HaK is it possible to do plug and play? I like the covers more and I would like a nicer interior

I also wondered about replacing just the covers. I like the look. Saw some on Aliexpress (link).

Fitment might be a problem for B&W covers, but aside from that:

I believe there are replacement/upgrades for the actual trim for HK speakers, but couldn't readily find (@SmartSaves looks closest). Perhaps some knowledgeable audiophiles could weigh in....

Not really since it isn't trying to look like the X5M. It is a different exterior and parts with options that goes with it. It is part of the M-Performance line not M. As I said in the previous post it is the equivalent of putting an M badge on a plain Jane car... You're trying to make it something it isn't.

I think we are not on the same page. Allow myself to clear things up. I like the stainless steel/aluminum bare metal look of the grill (not looking for fake B&W logo). It doesn't need to be the same grill, can be any other design I hope it makes more sense now.
