He hates his car and that has effectively clouded any other perceived positives. He needs to dump it and move on...

On the issues with Active Driving Assist. I thought mine just ping ponged back and forth in the lane as well until I realized, that was just lane keeping assist. Once in radar cruise, have to hit the mode button until the steering wheel icon appears above the radar distance. Held the lane pretty good that way. Just a thought. Hoping I wasn't alone in that. lol...

Very generous offer. Mind sharing your settings in a different thread so we can read the comments?

I hope the OP finds what he's looking for and I know how he feels. This purchase is a lot of money, don't care if you/we are millionaires and can easily afford to pay cash.

It's gonna be real hard for us to give up our Lexus RX350 and going to this X5 with all the bugs scares the helluva out of me. In 6 years of ownership I literally did no "repairs" other than change the windshield wipers.

Would love the XC90 but read too many reliability horrors.

As far as the a/c goes, have you checked your back a/c? Maybe it's pumping out heat while the front is trying to cool. My back right vent is doing that and has to go in for service to fix it.

It's smooth, no question. Just not really enthused with it. Gets a bit zingy sounding when a foot is put in it. I'll admit I'm pissed off with other aspects of this car and BMW's support, which is making me grumpy and probably too nit picky on the motor.

Come on man. Someone can't be critical of the product without dismissing it as somehow not real criticism?

I wanted to love this vehicle. I have 80000 reasons to need to love it. It's the third X5 I've owned, having now given BMW over $200000 over the last 12 years for the pleasure of driving off in their product. I've been a fan since the 2002tii.

You loved it on Feb 12th. You thought the massaging seats were great, etc..... Motor is “smooth and torquey”, etc... sounds like you are blinded by buyers remorse. What a 180.

I know. What a difference a good long drive and makes and the initial excitement of just having picked up the new car I'd waited 2 months on wears off. I have no qualms with changing my opinion...I'm not married to my initial impressions and I don't mind admitting I was wrong.

The A/C issue surprised me. It’s never really an issue on modern cars and my previous BMWs have had fantastic AC. It was a pleasant 70ish day on the long drive and we found ourselves asking wtf is going on with this AC? Any other car we’ve had with auto AC we just set it to 69 (mid fan speed) and forget. This car we had it set down at 64/5 with high fan speed. It blew cold then. Almost like a calibration issue. On a 70 degree day, any modern auto AC should be barely audible and should cool very easily.
So you did do adjust the hidden upper body temp setting right? My G30's A/C was making me go bonkers until I found this setting hidden in idrive which used to be a blue/red wheel on my previous Bimmers. It's now tied to my memory button 1 on the dash for quick changing. When it's in the middle setting, the air coming from the upper vents will be lukewarm and stuffy when you're trying to cool down the car....

As for the A/C and remembering that you didn't have the patience to sit through set up on delivery... What is your (now hidden)"red/blue" wheel set to? You're in TX, put it on blue...it's hot there!

What was the "red/blue" wheel for the upper vents for your HVAC on?

For what it’s worth, I went from loving mine to not loving it after one of the wheels went out of balance. (Ran over something in the road) Didn’t seem like the same vehicle. Got it rebalanced and loved it again. Don’t know if that’s relevant here, obviously.

While I am sure you have had issues with this car, some of which have been reported by others, ride quality and engine "meh" are not sentiments that have been shared here before. So expect some push back.

That was my guess. There are so many things in the review that can't be based on real life experiences. I was thinking a troll just to get people riled up.

Maybe for some reason he got a tremendous lemon, if that is the case I hope he can either get things fixed or just move on.

Don't waste your money on the Q7 like we did. Got rid of it in 2 months. The shortest I've ever owned a vehicle.

Just got done with a 10 hour road trip on my new 40i and I'm sick to my stomach with buyers remorse. For close to 80 grand spent on an ostensibly luxury vehicle, I expect better. This is the 3rd X5 I've had. It's the last. In fact it's the last BMW.

I've now got the latest in vehicle engineering and design from a high end German company, that rides more harshly than my daughters new $32000 VW Atlas. An Atlas which, btw, has tech which is not too far off this X5 but seems to get the job done more effectively.

"Luxury" seats are less comfortable than my F15 seats on a trip. Massage is barely perceptible. Money waste.

Fought with getting things activated and working...hotspot, store, connected drive...none of it particularly smooth, some still not working, all requiring multiple calls to mostly unhelpful sorts. Genius?...not so much. They're mostly all quick to get you off the phone with a "let it sit for 24-48 hrs". WTF? After 9 phone calls and a bunch of blowing me off, one kind hearted Bmw assist person took 30 secs to walk me into updating apps and fixed a connected drive issue.

Don't bother with the active steering assist. It's a money waste. It's annoying and nausea inducing. At best, it wanders back and forth in the lane like a questionably sighted old lady, and fingers/hands get a bit sore with the constant resisting to keep it from undulating all the time. At worst it catches you by surprise and swerves violently away from imaginary crap making it an outright danger at times. Far more inferior in execution than the Volvo system I drove for a month in Europe last year. The BMW system is not good. Auto lane change works, but feels like an amateur has taken control and yanks the wheel over to the next lane then yanks its straight. It's laughable! Like a bunch of bad drivers designed the whole thing.

idrive...after getting a good chance to play with it on long trip, it's a bit less annoying than my old F15, but still pisses me off. Touchscreen seems nice, but it's TOO far away to easily reach! So end up just kind of not using it as it doesn't readily fall to hand. My RAM truck system is far and away superior to the idrive.

The A/C is weak. Fans have to be cranked to get it to cool to 69 on not even that hot of a day (70). And 69 feels hot. Had to make it 64 to be comfortable and then it was loud, like max AC.

They don't go out of their way to let you know the hotspot they so kindly included for 4 years is just the basic capability. You still have to pay lots to AT&T for the service. Really slick BMW.

Laser lights are a money waste. No better than the LEDs.

Power is meh.

I realized it bears too much ass-end similarity to the Rav4 I was sitting next to at a gas station.

All in all, I regret not just keeping my F15 and spotting up for a 4 year extended or waiting on the GLE at least.

When the new GLE hits the showrooms, I'm looking to trade this. Hopefully I can hold out 'til then. Otherwise I'll be looking harder at Audi, Porsche, R Rover. BMW will never again get money from me.

Sorry you hate it. Too bad you didn't test drive the car extensively. In 5 minutes you could have figured out the the things that bug you.

My experience is exactly opposite of yours. We picked it up in Spartanburg and 1/2 way through a cross-country drive back to California. I've owned BMWs since '88 and this one is by far the best BMW we've owned.

You sound so pissed it does not seem like your unhappiness is reversable. So, you should cut your losses and sell it and go buy a proper car. Clearly, BMW is not it.

By the way, calling the power of the X5 40i meh makes your post sound like a run-of-the-mill troll post. I'm sure you are not a troll and have ligitimate complaints, but complaining about X5 40i power is just plain silly. This car does 0-60 in 5.3 seconds officially and 4.9 seconds according to one car mag testing. Meh is not an accurate word to decribe that speed for a 5000 pound vehicle.

Good luck on your next car. At the very least, test drive it first.

Yeah the whole change of heart just sounds very odd but I've had something similar happen to me with a car before. With that said, I just can't fathom how one can drive a G05 and F15 and think the latter is superior.

You never had issues with the A/C in your F15? The F15 is notoriously known for having interior cooling issues.
