Just went out and tried it, rear speakers are fine, center speaker again. I will mess with it over the weekend, worse comes to worse i'll just disconnect it - there are six more speakers, and even looks like there are four speakers in the headliner as well.
I think you're just unfortunate to have this issue. Literally no one is having this issue except you. It's the music your listening to....... You can disconnect the center but I think you'll still hear the distortion as it's not the speakers, it's your source.

Again, tons of sources cause the same distortions, and if your heard the distortions from my speaker in person you wouldn't be discounting it, it is severe. If it was only minimal distortions like in your video, I would not be complaining at all.

I quit. Go ahead and rip out the whole system. Again, I've tested your source in my Mercedes C63 with burmester. I am hearing the exact same distortion..... So logic says that it's the source.

Took some time today to mess with the speaker and recorded a few videos. I suggest you use headphones or a good sound system to watch the videos, and certainly dont use a phone/tablet or a laptop, or you will hear distortions where there aren't any.

If you tl;dr just skip to the last video for the lulz.

It seems one of your speakers are installed improperly.
What is going on with this speaker installation below?

At this point I have to agree that it is the source or the file not the speaker.
If you play a factory CD (not a copy or burn) you would probably not have this issue or at a minimum purchase a speaker test CD to test.

just tested the song on my Martin Logan's and it's very subtle but it's there. like I said manufacturers boost certain frequencies in cars to compensate for speaker placement.

Thanks for pointing that out, I didn't even realize it wasn't installed properly! When I saw that I thought it was meant to be recessed like that, but then I touched it, and it was loose - seems they never snapped into the panel. Had to remove the whole panel to properly install it from the back.

Except our cars do not have CD players anymore. I wonder if I can download a speaker test flac file.

Thanks. Subtle I could live with, but in my car is pretty bad. I have a speaker on order from Bimmertech, I will update this thread to see how it compared. My only worry is that it might not clear the grille.

Also, anyone know what are these small speakers in the headliner? I assume they are just tweeters?

Valid point on CD. If you do not have RSE you cannot play a CD for process of elimination purposes or use a speaker test CD for diagnostic purposes.

I've been messing with all these speakers, I hooked them up to a house amp and I notice that at the same volume level, the "B&W" speaker is a lot louder than the others, at least 50% louder than the "Logic 7" speaker.

This is over a $100,000 + car without options, B&W should be ordered as the price is irrelevant. Especially if leasing, it's an extra $20 a month? (I just threw out a number).

I ordered the B&W for my '21 F95 comp without testing at a dealership, as I have the B&O system in my current F85. Personally, I feel that the H&K in my F83 sounds better than the B&O, but my music is EDM, Sirius BPM.

I was fitting a tracker to a 2021 X5 45e recently. It had the Bowers & Wilkins upgrade.

I have HK in my 430d Gran Coupe but have yet to collect my X5 M50d with HK so can’t compare 4 Series HK to X5 HK just now.

For what it’s worth though, I did give the B&W system in the 45e a brief audition and I wasn’t blown away.

I’m into really good audio and I’d love to report that it was a night & day upgrade listening to my fav beats in the new X5 with the B&W compared to my 2016 HK-equipped 430d -but it wasn’t.

That said, HK in the 430 Gran Coupe is very good, IMO. (Anyone else have a view on this?)

My M50d is a demo so I don’t have the option to spec it. However, my OCD would not allow me to pass B&W on the options list without checking the box. I assume it must be better, just in my brief audition, I didn’t have my soul woken!

You only live once, may as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb... drive on and load that sucker up! We’ll all cheer you on!

Very interesting that you too think the HK is not beaten by B&O. I like EDM also.

So jealous of your X5M - mad pricing here in Ireland: €200,000 / US$235,000... taxes on automobiles is mental here.

I had my M2 with HK for almost 2 years before I gave it to my daughter, and prior to that I had my m235i also with HK - and I was very happy with both of them. They do sound a bit flat compared to B&O and B&W in my X6Ms, but at least no distortions.

TBH, I've said this a few times to a few friends. Most people won't like a true Audiophile system because they are too used to bloated frequency systems.

I am not saying that B&W in this car is a true Audiophile system but to say that HK sounds better makes me wonder. We had HK in our last G05 X5 and it's not even close. Not even on the same planet.

Trust me if I didn't live in the southeast of the United States where premium gas 93 octane is $2.20/gallon, I wouldn't have a X5M. The taxes in Europe are through the roof and the petrol is almost triple than the US southeast. Then there is the emissions tax.

Not better, HK in the M2 certainly sounds flatter than both B&O and B&W systems, I only pointed out that I heard no distortions in it - and my daughter and I tested them side to side. Distortions aside, obviously the B&W sounds better and punches harder. However, I still insist that all these systems are more or less the same, and despite being branded different they are probably made by the same supplier. If you saw the videos I posted, Logic 7 speaker has exact the same fit, plug, cone material and general feel and appearance as the B&W speaker.

Also, I've been doing some testing with my speakers connected to a desk amp, and I pretty much determined that the distortions with the B&W speaker and the Logic 7 speaker are volume related - if I reduce volume enough there are no distortions, so maybe the system just isn't very well balanced, or these speakers are particularly sensitive to certain frequencies. It's just annoying that sometimes they distort at relatively low volume levels when playing certain frequencies with a lot of echo or resonance.

My package with the Bimmertech Alpha One speaker should arrive at some point today, and I will record another video of Logic 7 vs B&W vs Bimmertech.

I had the M2 Comp for a weekend last year. Epic doesn’t do it justice but... I found the HK audio system in it to be poor compared with thr system in my 430d. Too ‘bright’ & insufficient bass.

Just sayin’.

FWIW: I tried changing my speakers to Alpha One in an E60 -new Amp, harness... the works. Could not get the system tuned to the vehicle. Was an expensive disaster. I would be slow to do that sort of surgery in a new vehicle.

Yep... on top of huge import taxes... you get to pay an emissions-related ‘Road Tax’ of x /year /vehicle based on their CO2 emissions.

Bit it’s only $5.70 /gallon of gas.

Enjoy your X5 M1

then there arre countries like norway, iceland greenland etc. who have even stricter tax, fuel prices and annual charges. people in the US have no idea how good they have it; even at the highs of 2008 gas prices.
