Rising Gas Prices...
Is anyone concerned about purchasing the 135i with the continually rising gas prices and the requirement for premium fuel?
I have always wanted a performance car and to drive it the way it was made to be driven. Ever since I started reading about the 1 last year I knew that this was the next car I wanted to get. I'm concerned because I don't want to have a 5-year loan on a car that may be too expensive for me to drive. Gas prices are continually rising with no end in sight. My current car, Nissan Sentra Spec-V, recommends the use of premium fuel. Its not that I can't afford the gas but I have definitely changed my driving habits. I went from getting 25 mpg both city/hwy to getting 30mpg. I let loose every once in a while but have been much more conservative on launches and with the speed I drive. I also skip gears, 1 to 2 to 4 to 6, keeping the rpm's low. Also, putting the car in neutral when approaching stops. Just wondering what people think... |

Personally I think even at our current prices we still have very cheap gas...
But in your case you may have to drive very conservatively but really if gas price is a concern maybe a 128i would be the better way to go, or something even more frugal but still fun like a VW GTI or a Mini S...

I was concerned about this too. However, after looking at the numbers, it's not so bad. A fellow member (WhiteOne) already did the math with the following data:
Miles driven per year: 15000 MPG: 20 Gallons/year: 750 Extra cost/gal: $0.20 This calculates to an extra $12.50 per month or $150 annually. The assumption is, if you can afford this car, the extra cost for premium fuel is negligible. |

Buy the 135 and stock in Exxon. It will balance itself out!

our gas in the U.S. is still cheaper than a gallon of milk...
I just got a 128i and a full tank is getting me about 285 miles to the tank... not great...I did just get it and have opened it up more times than I should including many a dips in traffic... but overall....this is eating as much gas as the VW rabbit I use for work... shoot....my wife drives the new CRV and the 128 gets better gas mileage... just like someone else mentioned...if this is your daily driver...think about it....it is only what like an 11gl tank... so 11x3.85(91 here in AZ) you are looking at 42.35 to fill up once... just my two cents... if you can afford the car...you can afford the gas |

It may be cheaper than milk, but I don't use 10 gallons of milk a week. I say we drill in Alaska, but that is just me. Plus we are about ten years late on that idea anyway.

can you imagine...10gl of milk a week....
some parents do suffer through that... I am the biggest eco freak around but if drilling in Alaska was a sure fire shot of getting oil to come down.. I would be the first one to pump!!!! it's ok....if global warming lives up to the hype* being funny..don't burn me at the stake... Alaska will be the new Hawaii in about 15 years.... |

Gas is now in line with all the other prices. I did a big breakdown of many things from 25 years ago and gas is finally in line with all other inflation. Get use to it. Buy everything else in bulk and on sale, eat smart and healthy, pack your lunch, etc.

It is the cost of food you should be worried about. They sell us oil. We sell them food. When one goes up the other goes up...... Which would you rather do without?

The 135 is a hot-rod, fill it up, drive, there are far more significant issues in our daily lives to fret about. Hell, I'm coming from a 71' Buick Skylark, by comparison, the 135 is gonna' sip gas. BTW, this thread is on the verge of becoming political.

Gas is still a relatively small part of overall BMW ownership costs. I plan to ignote it until it gets to $10/gal or so, and then take another look.
It's fun watching people dealing with their 'fuel addiction'. |
