Ventilated Seats

So as the warmer weather hits NJ I've been noticing more that my ventilated seats don't seem very strong in the vent part.

Normal or others have a similar experience?

i tried mine last week and honestly didnt feel them work at all.. (they were on for sure).. my drive was rather short (5 min) but still..

The only other car i used ventilated seats was a 2015 escalade i had back in 2015 and they were awesome, the minute you turn them on you were feeling the cold in your back and behind

Normal they do not blow very much and they simply use ambient air, does not cycle airconditioned air through.

Agree. My old 2014 Grand Cherokee ventilated seats worked well. But since the Germans are so adamant about adding any comfort features in their vehicles, they only offer them because they have to.
But they should design them to work well.

Yup, it's suck vs blow

Most "ventilated seats", e.g., Lexus either BLOW cabin-temp air or they blow a/c air ...

BMW ventilated seats SUCK, i.e., use evaporation's cooling effect by sucking away the air from your seat and back.

I don't feel the seats working like a cold airflow cooling my back.

However I do feel the difference when sitting in the car in hot weather. My back is not getting wet and if the back of my shirt was wet before entering the car it dries.

For me this adds to my comfort.

BMW's design is definitely different than my previous Audi (sucks vs blows). call it an inferior design, but it works to prevent heat buildup between me and the leather. I just think most prefer feeling cooled by active airflow, which i believe also reduces the temperature of the hot leather more effectively than sucking.

Yep, they barely do anything besides making noise. They were the same in my old F86, no improvement in the F96.

They work a bit better at highway speeds with AC blasting, but around town they are pretty useless.

Totally normal, unfortunately, AC is not directed into the seats. Would be interesting to hear from BMW why they cannot make this happen. My Ford truck did it wonderfully.

I have the X5 M and the vented seats work awesome do not know maybe these seats work better I do not know. If you have the vents in the rear seating area point them towards the floor and towards the back of the front seats as possible. It will help the seat fan intake pick up the cooler air easier.

I do not know what to tell you sorry. I have had many seats that are vented as well as one vehicle that had real AC cooled seats. Mine work fine.

I will send you a nice cheese basket you already have the whine.

Wow.

My main complain on my '18 M4 is that my ass gets sweaty during summer drives because there were no options to add ventilated seats.

I was actually looking forward to a new X5 soon with vent seats. That blows! Or sucks in this case. :

I was also concerned about my ventilated seats, but now I read here that they are not so "ventilating" after all.
Last time I had IMO "normal" ventilated seat´s was when I had Saab 9-5 Aero more than 15 years ago

Exact same - you can wear gloves for your hands, but leather seats are the absolute WORST for sport driving. Alcantara is a real pain in the ass on a day-to-day basis (and it has to be maintained whereas you can let leather go ... it'll get shiny though) ... at one point I was using a piece of rubber drawer liner + towel on the seat to stop the sweating and sliding around.

Though that's all sport driving without A/C, so in the X5 I'm not expecting a problem as I don't expect either of those.

I think it does the job preventing sweating? Though I agree it should be stronger at the 3rd setting at least

When I use the ventilated seat, I set it to setting 2. That way I don't hear the fan. I did the same on a 2014 Grand Cherokee. Though unlike on the BMW, the Jeep's ventilated seats worked great, even on setting 1.
BMW should take a lesson from Jeep.

BMW ventilated seats SUCK, i.e., use evaporation's cooling effect by sucking away the air from your seat and back.
On the other hand, if you fart, it’s gonna suck it into the seat itself.
Might be very useful.
BMW design/engineering must be proud.
