Discount on loaner vehicles

Hi all, I was looking at some demo x5s at my local dealership and was quoted 8% off MSRP. This was the discount I got for the new vehicles on the lot as well. Is it possible to get more discounts off for these loaner vehicles? I thought they would offer more % off since they're technically still used cars but not sure how the low inventory affects everything right now.

Any input is appreciated. Thanks

I’m sure anything is possible if you find the right dealer. If a dealer is choosing to offer the same discount on a demo vehicle as a new non-demo, that’s on the particular dealer. If a demo has never been titled, it’s actually technically still a new car, but most people expect more of a discount because it’s effectively a bit used.

There's one shown as courtesy vehicle but has a 1 owner carfax. I'm not sure if this means it has been titled already?

I think it depends on how this particular X5 is equipped.

I had a new order in place at 10% off MSRP with the options and color combo I wanted only to have H/K and air suspension/3rd row removed from my spec. The must-haves for me were Phytonic Blue, M-Sport, multi-contour seats, H/K, towing pkg and air suspension/3rd row. I then started searching for on the ground inventory within a 500 mile radius and found only 1 that met that criteria, although with with a different interior color and with executive pkg and luxury seating pkg. It had a higher MSRP and it was a service loaner. The dealer knew they had a bit of a unicorn, given the options it had, and were not willing to give me 10%, but gave me 5%. And it was titled to the dealer, so technically I am the 2nd owner.

I know this wasn't a great deal, but I got all that I wanted, plus some features I have grown to appreciate. While the price increase from what I had on order vs. what I ended up with was a bit hard to swallow, I couldn't be happier now. What was important to me was getting a car equipped with the options I wanted and not having regrets as time went on.

Most demo, courtesy, and executive vehicles are "new" cars. Even though they have miles on them they have never been titled which allows them to qualify as new. In some cases the factory warranty may have already started, but that still doesn't negative the car as "new". Despite the mileage or warranty status on those cars the advantages is that they qualify for new car incentives and discounts, but unfortunately it doesn't mean you are going to get a significantly better price because of the mileage on them; especially now with low inventory, supply chain constraints and semiconductor shortage.

The one I'm looking at also is well equipped, I'll try to negotiate a little more and see if i can get better discount than brand new ones

That makes sense, and was what the sales guy said. The 1 owner on the carfax could be the dealership but I'll need to double check.

My X5 40i is a courtesy car used by the finance manager. I ended up buying it with 2.5K miles on it as new with all the rebates and incentives. MSRP of 74K I got for 62K.

That's a good deal. Sadly with the supply chain issues right now I was only able to get 8% including incentives and rebates

I got mine beginning of May. If you have good relationship with the dealer. They will entertain lower prices for you despite the shortage. Hence my M50i will be getting up to 12K off the 99K MSRP

If you get such a good discount why buy a loaner? just build one to your exact spec and get the discount

Did not want to wait too long for the order and according to the dealership there's no allocation available…not sure if I can believe him

check leasehackr, I have seen as much as 20% for demos depends on model and dealer as well.

Allocations seem to be extremely tight so he is probably being straight with you. MY22 allocations should be out within the next month but then you are likely waiting until mid/late Aug or Sept for delivery.

That's true, I did not want to wait for MY22 now with the limited options. So was just looking for a new one on the lot or well-optioned loaners.
