Coffee Vernasca or Coffee Merino

I signed off on a X40i Phytonic Blue with Coffee Vernasca last night and considering whether up update the dealer that I want to go with Merino instead. There will be a car seat at all times in the back & with two small dogs there will be the trips to the vet etc. It’s currently a lease so this won’t be a forever car / one I plan on reselling down the line. I’m currently in an Inifniti QX60 so would be coming from “leatherette” to Vernasaca. The car will also be out in the FL heat & sun as no option for Garage parking at the moment.

The Merino for $1000 is a no brainer to me. Currently have Mocha Nappa in my soon to go back F15 with a toddler and dog and the seats still look amazing without having applied any protection to them. Get the Merino

You can have your dealer change the order until it gets a VIN assigned. Happens all the time.

Awesome! I just reached out again. I have a feeling they just want to get the order in since I’ve been going back and forth on decisions crossing fingers they’ll help instead of saying no we can’t.

I didnt like the quilted design in the Merino so I went with Vernasca. No regrets.

Garage List
although not required per se, Merino does better if you do some type of maintenance whereas Vernasca is more resilient. keep in mind that the rate of wear and tear differs among users so the above situation may not apply to everyone.

I have coffee Vernasca as we tend to keep be preventative inside our vehicles.

That was exactly my thought process as well... I preferred the cleaner looking design of the Vernasca. While the Merino is nice, the pattern was a bit too much for me.

Merino no question. Also get the luxury seating package if you can. We have a dog and a car seat and the merino holds up just fine. And like you, ours is a lease as well and the merino is more than resilient enough to hold up through a 36 mo lease.

i LOVE the feedback here. seems like everyones in one of two boats and no one in the middle :P

I was able to reach the dealer and they are going to put in the merino (yay!). It's great to hear from the individuals with kiddos and pets who have found the experience great nonetheless and there's a part of me that likes the uniqueness the pattern brings. I think if the package was a lot more than $1K I wouldn't have considered it but it felt like a small push over the long term that I would love to experience. Worse case I don't love it long term, the car will go back and I can shift into a different interior.

I just received my X5 with Black Vernasca. Zero regrets! I'll be honest though, I continued to wonder if I should have gone with the Merino up until I received the car. Merino is basically softer to touch. If that's important to you, pay the extra and get Merino. in terms of comfort, not a noticeable difference between the two IMHO.

I would recommend getting the Merino leather.

The Merino leather not only has a more premium feel, but the back seats also don't get WRINKLY like with the Vernasca leather. I have Merino leather in my 2021 X5 M50i, and I have zero regrets.

This is not accurate at all. The "wrinkles" that were designed into MY19 and MY20 were for both Vernasca and Merino. It was only Sentsatec that got the smooth back seats.

are you basing this on experience? the initial G05 releases had some level of wrinkly seats on both Vernasca and Merino as seen on the early photos in this thread: https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...r+seat+wrinkle

my MY21 45e coffee Vernasca seats are wrinkle-free.

Just note that once you add Merino, your car becomes an "Individual" order, and that means there are no changes of any kind allowed after the production block date (which can be found on your Vehicle's Inquiry report).

So before your dealer clicks the Merino tickbox, make sure you don't have any doubts about the options you've selected (or ones you may still be contemplating).

You may be right about the MY19 and MY20 X5's, but I don't have the wrinkle problem in my MY21. Pics don't lie

Also not relevant to my comment to your original post. As I and others have stated, the “wrinkles” were in both merino and vernasca for the first two model years. Only the senatec Sears were smooth.

Your seats look great.

You may be right..

I'm guessing it's something BMW fixed for MY21 across the board

It appears they addressed the numerous customer complaints
