Does your answer basically carry over to any car purchase? I've purchased all my cars cash and sometimes I recoup a good amount of my initial acquisition price, sometimes not. In most cases it's less than the cost of a lease but add the maintenance and it's probably an even wash.

Thoughts?
If you time it right, BMW leases tend to be very advantageous. Another thing is that the leases are transferrable so it is easy to get out of them. Unfortunately the X5M has never leased well since it is a low production vehicle.

The advantage of a lease is that the exit price is known at the end and you can choose to buy it out and sell it if resale prices are strong or just hand over the keys if they are weak or the car has been damaged.

Another advantage is that in some states like California you only pay tax on the monthly payment. This means with a 60% residual you only end up paying tax on 40% of the purchase price. This can be significant on a $125K truck.

I always do the math on lease vs purchase and decide that way. My Ram 2500 diesel was a purchase, but my M5 was a lease.

Awesome thank you for the great advice.

I went to look at a 2020 E63S and I got quoted a lease that would cost me $100K over three years, with a residual of about $70k. I don't know how to negotiate car leases or purchases for that matter so I did the rough math and I realized I should probably leave the dealership. Which I did. Of course I got the obligatory call an hour later from the manager telling me they can drop the price by $6K to $119K. It still seemed like they were preparing for insertion and no indication of courtesy reach around.

I can't do it, I need to stick to buying lease returns at 55% of sticker price. 😢

I need to preface this with saying I am not a lease broker, however, in relation to comments above, LeaseHckr totally changed my perspective on leasing.

I have my local dealership who I've bought my M5 in 2015, leased a 2018 X5M at the end of 17 (due up in a few weeks), and after shopping around I was between an RS7 and another X5M. I have also serviced both of my cars here religiously and have a great relationship.

The RS7 is so exclusive right now that it just didn't make sense.

I went to my dealer who had a X5M Comp just how I wanted it ($123,795 sticker) and asked for numbers on 15k/36mo.

They came back at 4% off, a jacked up money factor and quoted it at $1,876 with $2750 down. I knew there were deals out there for less so I went on LeaseHckr to see what the real numbers were.

At 10k/36mo, base money factor (for October @ 0.00082) and what has been pretty standard across the board at 10% off, you should be at around $1,350 before taxes with no money down and no MSDs.

I sent my dealer the spreadsheet of the real numbers and asked what games they were playing and if they could match these numbers as I'd really like to give them the business, and they came back and said we can do an additional $500 off. I laughed and they pretty much said go pound sand.

I paid a lease broker $500 and I didn't even need to talk to the dealership, got a build slot for November on a MY21 and customized it just how I wanted, and am doing Spartanburg Delivery in December. At 15k/36mo with taxes, W&T & lease end protection, I'm right around $1,575 with no money down and no MSDs.

PM me if you want my broker's info. He's got great relationships in SoCal. Just finalized a great deal on an 21 M8GC comp yesterday at triple net for me.

I’m eyeing a 2021 X6M which I would lease between now and the first week of December. Do you think the rates would stay the same, get worst, or work in my favor for December?

The dealer should able to switch between Nov and Dec rate, whichever is better when you pick up the car. But you have to lock the Nov rate in order to keep it.

Thank you.

I'm currently in the 5th day of the final stage 3 lease assumption. Im told it would generally take approximately 3-5 weeks start to finish, but due to COVID BMWFS gives an approximate time of 14 days to complete. If I can get my email of complete between now and before the end of November, then I'll be clear to try locking in the X6M and not have to worry about my current lease vehicle. The vehicle will have been officially turned over to a new owner. Hopefully BMWFS finishes earlier then they say.

Looks like only 4-5% off. Can get you 10% off from an East coast dealer if you are willing to pay for shipping. PM me. They would have to look for an allocation.

X6M Comp Deal

Came in for some regular service and spotted this in the showroom. It's gotta be the best deal I've seen so far on an M model. It's got 105 miles on it at the moment.
