Is the LCI 40i better?
Curious how people are finding the 40i LCI compared to the previous version. Is it noticeably better?
I have already owned a 2019 and a 2022 X5. Both G05 40i. If I want to experience a noticeably better car do I need the 50e? I traded my 2022 X5 in on an iX which has turned out to be a lemon. Ive asked for a refund and contemplating what to do next. Any suggestions appreciated. |

I had a short term pre LCI 40i loaner while my X7 was getting serviced and recently picked up a G05 40i LCI for our second car…after the first 400 miles I can say that everything feels more refined. I haven’t passed break in yet, but comfort mode feels noticeably more composed and progressive in power delivery. I have largely enjoyed the new tech even if it’s an aesthetically less interesting cabin than the pre LCI. Things like parking, digital key, have been significantly improved to the point where they’re delivering tangible value (for my use cases). Overall I’m very impressed with the package.

Regarding performance, I have 25Hz GPS timing equipment and plan to test the 0-60 when the engine has finished break-in. I’m curious about the extra 40hp, but no pre LCI experience. Compared to my 382hp M340i though, X5 has noticeably more torque. Given this car weighs about 1100lbs more, it shoves you backwards assertively. The acceleration at freeway speeds is very respectable and does not have me wanting more for passing maneuvers. Best timed 0-60 I’ve done in my M340i is 4.3 seconds but it’s always been a RWD traction limitation and I know I’ve done sub 4 seconds before when I stick it off the line, just never had my timer to verify. At any rate, my RWD M340i can repeatedly do 4.6 to 4.8 seconds just stabbing the throttle off the line and short shifting 1st gear to avoid traction loss…So I’m super curious how close I can get to this time with x-drive aiding me off the line.

I had 2019 X5 for 3 years and after trying a few other cars, I am back at X5 and picked up my LCI two weeks ago. As others said, LCI feels more refined all around and with better tech (screens, iDrive 8). I also have all the M stuff on my LCI 40i so it rides better IMO whereas my 2019 X5 was pretty barebone in terms of options. LCI doesn't feel like a totally different car but it is a true LCI improvement from pre-LCI.

Seems too slow. These guys don’t seem to be the most professionals to do these tests. This is a quote from Car and Driver page on 24 X5:
“ The last time we tested an xDrive40i it made just 335 horsepower but still managed a quick 4.8-second run to 60 mph, so we expect a little extra hustle from the more powerful version.” Also I saw somewhere 24 X7 40i tested at 4.7 so I expect 24 X5 to be sub 5 sec for sure of properly tested |
