This is clickbait

Double-clickbait specifically. What I mean is why is it the case that the programmable buttons on the dash (6 or 8, depending on model and year) can only be assigned a single function? Yes, it's cool that you can program them to be something other than radio stations, but why only a single one? We've been living in a double-click world for many years now (and even a triple-clicks are known to exist), so why can't we program both a single and a double click function to these buttons?

I guess Favorites is kind of supposed to help in this area, but I never figured them out.

This has been on my mind since I got my first BMW, a 335i in 2008.

I don't store radio stations there. I keep my presets as an input and scroll via the steering wheel. You can always use voice commands to get to a particular radio station.

Maybe so that there isn't a delay when you just do a single press (i.e. it isn't just waiting to see if you are going to press again)?

Ummm, don't think that would be necessary. The button detects your finger is just touching it even before you click to engage the function. If you click just once and pull your finger away you get one action. Click twice and not take your finger off the button between clicks and you get another.

Mouse buttons don't seem to have any trouble differentiating between a single or double click and they don't even sense the finger is present before any clicking.
