It is a new option for MY2020 for certain models.

Great video, thanks for posting Jay. It comes with the Executive Package option on my new M50i, and I can't wait to try it out.

For some 2020 models it's available as a factory option for $200. X5, X7, 7 series, Z4. You must have surround cameras for this option to be available to you. And iDrive7. That said, 20 Seconds isn't enough for a driver to be aware to click the record button. Auto is great for severe accident situations, but not everything is going to trigger the impact sensors. And when a recordable event happens, often a driver is stunned or "communicating" with the offending driver and may not remember to hit the record button within 20 seconds. This is first Gen and obviously needs improvement. Nevertheless, glad BMW is paying attention.

$200 is a bit steep for something so primitive, but hopefully the software will evolve.

They should permit continuous record and ability to dump data directly to a USB thumb drive. Maybe one day...

Thats about what you pay for a decent dashcam. This is like having 4 dash cams in one

It will be great to be able to record continuously divided in 5 minute recordings like any dashcam out there , and when memory get's full, the system deletes the oldest recording, that way you will always have at least the last 5 minutes recorded to review which is more than enough time

Compare the features of BV to see what I mean. Even budget cams have much better software.

What would be really cool is to include the alarm as an 'auto trigger'
Not sure where the $200 cost is coming from. Drive Recorder is part of the Executive Package on the 2020's that come with iDrive7. |

No 3rd party dashcam can compare. I think $200 is well worth it considering no installation and no extra devices mounted on your windshield and rear windows - unless the video quality is trash. |

My 2019 was in today for .55 and the service manager was quoted as saying there are hardware in addition to software issues involved. There was no ETA about when a retrofit would be possible.
