That’s interesting because I have seen some really strange things happen to other cars I’ve owned and replacing the battery solved the issues. In my case I don’t think that’s the case. Hopefully we get them back soon and fixed correctly.

How did your drivetrain issue get resolved? I see you posted about two months back, how has the fix been working? Thanks for the update

Yeah, was a big bummer as our issue occurred while on a road trip with family over 550 miles from home and had only about 800 miles on it. Dealer there ended up replacing a module for the drivetrain and that corrected the issue. Took 15 days. Car was shipped back to Michigan from Nashville.

I have not had any issues since.

Glad to hear it worked out in the end, stressful of course. Take care

Got the drivetrain malfunction Saturday evening—luckily was in the driveway and not out on the highway. Roadside told me to try turning it off and on 3x in quick succession—then received a power supply malfunction. Car would not shift gears at all.

Called the tow truck and then weirdly when the tow arrived, the car was able to shift, though error was still present and startup did not sound normal.

Being taken to the dealership tomorrow morning—M60i with ~2400 miles on it.

Sorry to hear you’ve joined the club. Hopefully turn around time will be quick for you.

Appreciate it! We'll see. Hopefully they'll have a loaner for me if it's not quick.

I’m sorry you had to experience drivetrain malfunction. What build week is your car?

3rd day at the dealership—they still have no idea what's wrong with it. Was told yesterday if they can't replicate the issue (the error is now gone on startup), they'd return the car. This morning though, they said they're now waiting on BMW NA to tell them what to do next and they were likely giving me a loaner.

Picked up the car today. Apparently nothing "mechanical" wrong with the car and it just needed to be reprogrammed.

As per the invoice:

"Found numerous vaults stored for 48V system. Followed applicable test plans and found to be inconclusive. As per shop foreman, lifted front right carpeting area to gain access to ground cable mounting nut. Checked and verified correct torque of mounting nut. Submited TSARA case # with findings. As per TSARA case, removed 12V battery, cover and verified correct torque of cables. Removed engine cover and cowel covers for access and verified correct connections of 48V system and submitted pictures. As per TSARA case, programmed complete vehicle and performed calibration of EPS, DSC sensors and all cameras. Cleared fault memory and performed 2 ten mile test drives. Found no further check control messages present."

Funny enough, while I was picking up the loaner, I spoke to a guy who has a '23 X7 m60i and he said his car had had the same error message but needed a part shipped from Germany at month 2 of having his car. His car was back in the shop (3rd time) and has now spent over 3 months in the shop of the 9 months he's owned it.

I already had the A/C Valve replaced back in Oct. Now 3 days ago I had the Drivetrain malfunction message, wouldn't move. 1 hour later the message went away and never came back. I made several small drives since then and nothing. The only thing "unusual" is that I left my car at the airport parking for 2 days, got home with no more hybrid battery left, charged it and then got the message. Wonder if it could be the 12V and some type of drain. Planning to call the dealer today to see if I need to bring it in. Honestly I don't have time for this, but don't really trust the car now feels like russian roulette.

My Drivetrain Malfunction required a Combined Charging Unit (CCU) replacement. There were various battery fault codes generated, but the CCU was the problem.

Any issues with driving with the A/C valve CEL on? Got it today - was told to keep driving but have to take the car out of town for a couple weeks for work.

Do you know it’s the valve? The CEL could be on for a number or reasons.

Parts not available for a week.

I did ask for a loaner but they Told me to drive away as it’ll be fine. They’re not super experienced with PHEVs so doesn’t strike me a lot of confidence haha

My 2024 X5M died on me lastnight. It said drivetrain malfunction.

**Update from dealership. "It's an issue with the gear selector module that was causing the no-start problem. We are seeing if it can be repaired or if we are going to have to order a new one. I should know by the end of the day tonight or tomorrow morning."

Got the red "STOP DO NOT DRIVE" Drivetrain malfunction on Dec 29th. The car wouldn't even let me start it. Just completely dead. I was late for work so I didn't have time to deal with roadside assistance at the time. Just took my other car and went to work.

I came back that night, tried to start the car and the warning changed to "continue to drive but performance limited" message.

Next day I got in the car. No warning message at all. Car started fine but with a check engine light. I drove it to work.

Dec 31st. I got in the car, started it normally and check engine light was gone. What is this a self repairing car?

I just dropped the car off at the dealership this morning, explained it to the service advisor what happened. He said it would take couple of days to diagnose and repair. I'm just waiting to hear from them now.
