sound M50d vs 30d
Tested the x5 M50d for a couple of days and tested also the 30d.
The M50d is faster and a very nice car. But the 30d is fast enough for me because it's no sports car. The M50d comes standard with M sport exhaust system. For the 30d this is an option. The 30d I testes was equipped with the M post exhaust system, but the sound is not the same like the M50d. When starting the engine, the M50d revs for some seconds witch is very nice. when driving, both cars in the same (comfort) mode, the M50d sounds still better than the 30d, even with the M sport exhaust on the 30d. Is there a possibility to let the 30d sound just like the M50d? |

Since the engine is larger and different to some degree you won't be able to mimic the sound externally. Of course you can use ASD to sound the same as a M50d inside but that's not the point.

The engine displacement is the same. 30d,40d and 50d are all 3000cc. The main diference is the turbos. 30d single, 40d twin and 50d quad

How is the comfort for both cars, are both cars on air suspension or M50d with DHP and M adaptive suspension professional?
I really want to see how air suspension compare to DHP with M Adaptive suspension professional. Especially in City driving with bad roads and pot holes. Thanks Cel |

I test drove both before making my decision, i agree with android robot if you can afford the M50d then go for it.
I went for the M50d, and thought did i make the right choice repeatedly, then my one arrived and i drove it, any doubts i had dissipated within seconds. Its a different beast completely; admittedly i have had a few issues with mine, resulting with it ending up in the service department again, but all quickly ironed out. i think i would be living with "why didnt i" if i got the 30d... |

Yea would love to know too. I would guess DHP with Adaptive Suspension Professional would be more comfortable to the standard suspension and Air being the most comfortable among all especially with 22".
I test drove 40i with Air on 21inch wheels and is very comfortable. I am waiting for M50i I am not sure should I stick with Air or go with DHP with Adaptive Professional Suspension on the standard 22inch wheels. |

It's the same engine, but the 50d had 4 turbo's and the 30d only one. I drove both cars without the air suspension but with the 22 inch wheels. Very comfy!

Nope.
As mentioned, turbo setup, mapping and fake sound generator all mean that you'll never get a 30d to sound like a 50d.

I’ve been told if you order the M-Sport exhaust on the 30d you get the similar fake sound to the 50d. The sound is played internally and also externally using a speaker type setup in the exhaust system, like the set up on the higher end Audi diesels.

Speakers in the exhaust system externally? Now I have heard everything!!!
Looking forward to hearing a 40i with Sports Exhaust which will hopefully have a real[ly] good sound. |
