I think every manufacturer uses the terms differently. When I was at Mazda we referred to ‘service contracts’ as coverage for routine maintenance (oil changes, filters, etc.), and ‘extended warranty’ as coverage for mechanical breakdowns after your bumper to bumper warranty expires. Sorry for the confusion.

How much did your maintenance plan cost? Would you hesitate to make a similar purchase again? I'm seriously considering one with slightly higher miles than what yours had when you got it but the high miles kind of scare me. But I had an '07 N54 up to 150k miles so I feel like a G05 with the B58 would be a much better experience.

There are a few things that it covers, like my seat belt latch and a windshield if the electronics in the glass go faulty. But most of the time, the rubber bits and pieces are going to go first and those definitely aren't covered.

I did not calculate the total cost last time I read this article.
If I did not miss it...you've spent $11,120 + warranty for 52k miles (52k to 114k). I was considering buying out my lease at the end of this year but changed my mind. I think spending $11,120 + extended warranty cost is just outrageous......even for a BMW. |

When I made my deal, the highest mileage interval they offered for replacement/expired parts was 24k miles at $15k. Since I knew I wouldn’t have any major issues within that period, I didn’t want to drop the $15k, especially if some components wouldn’t be covered. Even if I purchased a CPO vehicle, I would have had to come up with some cash either way for what I’ve had replaced. |

I know what you said but I was responding to someone else who often tries to stir things up.

That is the rate to use for deduction calculation, they don't mandate what an employer has to reimburse their employees although many organizations use the standard mileage rate.

As for the rate, it was $0.55 for a portion of the beginning of the year, and then for the rest of the year it was $0.65. |

Thanks for the detailed list, wish everyone did that!
The 5 BMW's I owned prior to this one, (3 mine and 2 wife) had over 700k miles total. No extra warranties on any and never had any engine or transmission failures. I did all of the maintenance and 95 percent of the repairs. I paid for a clutch job on two cars and a driveshaft. Did driveshaft myself on the 86. Came out to very low ownership costs. Always had an extra vehicle since repairs and deep maintenance often took more than a day, waiting on parts and letting back rest. All five sold for top prices since everything worked and cars looked good. Except the 2010 sold it with a bad A/C compressor at a 2k discount. Hoping this rolling computer holds up, probably will since my wife likes her 2023 Honda Ridgeline for around town. |

I've had 7 BMW's in the 11 years that I've been driving, and the craziest repair that I've ever had to do was when the serpentine/accessory belt on my 06' 330i sedan broke and got sucked through the front crankshaft seal. I had to drop the oil pan and manually turn the timing chain to pick rubber pieces out, and I had to replace the front crankshaft seal. There was more work that I had to do to the car, but I ended up selling it because I didn't have time to keep working on it, and I didn't have the money to have someone else fix it (fresh college grad living in California off of Starbucks pay). People always say that they're unreliable, but people need to realize two things. 1: These cars will last as long as you need it to so long as you keep up on the maintenance. 2. There isn't a single part that goes into any car (Toyotas, Hondas, etc.) that is indestructible. It's only a matter of time before they start needing replacement parts. |

Had a rear differential (33108662655) go - started making a fairly annoying "whirling" noise when coasting - on an almost 1 year old 30d at 50,000 km. Covered under warranty so I'm not too worried - BMWs in my market have a 3/5 year unlimited mileage warranty. So far, we have had 3 of these as replacements for LC200s and no other problems. They're far more comfortable on long drives, have better fuel economy, and the cost of ownership so far is comparable or slightly less.
We plan to keep the vehicles going until close to the 5 year mark unless reliability becomes a big problem. Looking forward to seeing how they hold up being driven hard by multiple drivers, sometimes on unsealed roads, and often towing a trailer close to the 3.5t limit. |
