0-60 times

Does anyone else find it unusual that the 0-60 for the 35i went from 6.1s to 5.3s while the 50i went from 4.7s to 4.6s? I know the 35i got a 35hp and 30 lb-ft boost while the 50i got a 16hp and essentially zero torque boost, but that’s a huge jump for such a large SUV.

On the other hand, when C&D actually instrument tested the F15 models, the 35i did the 0-60 in 6s while the 50i was able to do it in 4.3s. So maybe the advertised V6 time is pretty spot on while the V8 might be underestimated.

Could also be due to gearing. The ratios changed for all 8 gears from the F15 to the G05. And most significantly the 1st and 2nd gears. Also, maybe improvements to the xDrive system that gets the power down to the pavement more efficiently. I think there are quite a few factors that play into the significantly faster 0-60 of the G05.

The 50i gearing didn't change quite as much from the F15, so maybe that is why there is a smaller difference.

Just my best guesses!

Another BMW mystery. Curb weight is up in the 40i by 23 lbs. so you wouldn't think a 35 / 30 bump in HP / torque would itself translate to a .7 second or so decrease in 0-60 times. Say what you want about Dinan and dynos in general, but they are showing that the B58s are putting out way more power whereas the N55s were generally closer to the advertised numbers.

If the G05 50i is not at least 1 second faster than the 40i I'll be really disappointed. It seems like very few people, if any, got a chance to drive the 50i at the press event.

Wait for the M50i which replaces the xdrive50i next year...60hp power increase to 520hp BUT most importantly 74 lb-ft torque increase to 553lb-ft over a wider rpm spread

Remember the 50i adds over 300lbs of additional weight to the X5. Also, the 50i might not be that much faster than the 40i 0-60, but I have no doubt the 50i would smack the 40i silly when you jump on the go pedal from like 40-100+mph.

Yeah....I have a more detailed post on this somewhere, but I just don't see those power numbers being a reality. Maybe my prediction is wrong, but it doesn't add up for a lot of reasons.
