Not a fan of arctic or sophisto?

I test drove an artic and actually was thinking about it, but it's too dark and actually looked blue to me. The sophisto is too dark. I'd like something more "mid-grey", like the Glacier Silver Metallic on the '18 but a tad darker than that. I can't find a car off the top of my head that has it, but I'm pretty sure Infiniti has one.

Yes, but it’s a tri coat and not a true metallic. Sunstone looks like a tinted bright silver metalic in real life. It’s much less beige than the pics show.

White technically isn't a metallic

Why bmw does not do the steering wheel color same as the seats in X5/7, I got the G05 and wished the steering wheel is ivory matching the seats it would look great especially with bmw logo

My guess is because of dirt and it matches the leather dash because it’s at the same eye level. I think we are lucky our door handles, armrest, bottom of seats and lower front panel are white. A lot of manufactures won’t be that daring with their light color interiors. BMW could have wimped out and used black on the lower seats. How nice it is to open the door and see high end seat controls on a full white seat. BMW’s last generation plastic seat controls looked very low rent.

Tanzanite is not super dark, at least not to me. I have a 340 in that colour, it's beautiful, much lighter than Imperial Blue for example.

What about options like the sky lounge and display key? Are these going to be offered similar to the x7?

That's good to know. Pictures I've googled make it look pretty dark in most conditions.

Would you say it is lighter than Phytonic Blue? (which I personally consider too dark)

Agreed, the colour thing is odd. I'm pretty sure Audi and Volvo will sell you a silver or metallic gold car with at least as much driver assistance technology as a new X5.

However, Tesla just doesn't really care about these things in terms of the normal process of testing cars for every scenario before they go on sale. They put stuff out there and see if it works. They are also happy to cross the line from optimism to fraud (e.g. selling "Full Self Driving" and pretending the only reason it doesn't work is because of regulatory approval, not the more accurate reason of the technology not actually existing on Tesla cars).

I would strongly disagree that they have more advanced driver tech as well. They have more advanced hype about their driver tech, but in the real world it's just another variation of the advanced cruise control that many manufacturers have, all of which are similar degrees of being a million miles away from any kind of autonomous driving.

In some ways I'd even argue it is much less advanced. For example, because of Elon Musk's arrogance, they insist on using cameras for their blind spot monitoring (just released last year, even though several economy cars have had a better radar-based system for years). In practice, this system is terrible, since it's very poorly located (you have to look at the dashboard to see the blind spot warning) and doesn't give you nearly as much advance warning of a car further back in your blind spot.

As you'll see from my signature, I had a Model S 100D, and in many ways it was a fantastic car. But oddly enough I found that, the powertrain aside, it felt extremely dated. No-one can touch Tesla yet on a truly usable electric car that can be driven almost like a normal car, because no-one else has the supercharger network. But in every other respect, the Model S feels cheap and sorely in need of an update. I recently took a look at a friend's Model 3, and I just don't think I could live with the cheap feel and poor build quality.

Google "bmw tanzanite blue" - tons of pics on different models. It's a beautiful color but clearly a "dark blue" while Phytonic is a medium blue.

Tanzanite Blue reminds me of Deep Sea Blue which is also darker than Phytonic.

that's a shame. Phytonic is too dark for me. it looks ok in bright sun, but any other weather it looks dark and dull (to me). I really wanted a blue X5 this time. Had Alpine White and Space Gray. Arctic Gray is too dark for my taste also, but may be the best bad option I have.

That would be a shame but I wouldn't be surprised if that ends being the case .

I saw Sophisto Gray in person for the first time this weekend and I think it's going to look really good on the X5. Especially with the M-sport package. Look forward to seeing it.
