Carbahn Tune available for 22 X5M50i

Other research has me to believe it’s not available but this site shows it when I put in my 2022 model. Is this accurate??

Can the tune be turned on and off like racechip? Those numbers are super exciting but I’d
Hate to see 12mpg! Haha

Flash tunes can only be reflashed back to stock, and at that, there are typically signs like a flash count that tip off dealerships that something's afoot.

It really depends on how deep they want to dig

Hmm, it now looks like Carbahn has made a “Piggyback?”

Yes, they private label RaceChip. But it is their own mapping.

I called carbahn to find out what the performance is at 91 octane. Was told you only drop of 10hp. Here in WA I don’t see 93 octane that often which is why I called. Wonder if it’s worth the xtra ponies over Racechip.

I'm debating on getting the Carbahn tune for my 2020 M50i. They advertise 698 flywheel HP & 702 LB/FT flywheel torque. If anybody in the industry can tune these cars its Steve Dinan.

On their website they have "93 Octane: 637 Flywheel HP & 717 lb-ft Flywheel torque" but when you check the dyno results, it's another story. Very similar to the Racechip numbers.

Interesting! Do you deal these and / or see advantage over the Racechip?

I believe the Dyno is showing HP at the wheels vs the advertised Crank?

Also, for what it’s worth (and maybe nothing without Carbahn actually validating it) I was told by a Carbahn installer that if you buy a piggyback and they later make a flash for your vehicle they credit (some of) the price of piggyback. Again, I would want to verify but. . .

Also, wondering if the price of warranty is worth it without having my crystal ball in front of me lol!

Just bought a Racechip last month so will likely wait for one of you guys to Guinea Pig this first!

I don't deal with their product.
But, for the price, does it worth the extra advertised hp? Is it a true number or just cooked number?
I have seen too many brands where they cook the number because they know that they can open up their bible with million reasoning if it doesn't come close to it.

Trust me, some manufacturers don't like me because I like to proof them wrong.

I'm really curious how such a huge increase is possible with just a tune on this engine. Is the factory config detuned by that huge amount from what the engine is safely capable of? And there's no free lunch here - I'd want to know exactly what they do to all the various "levers" that can be controlled by a tune (timing for example can be a tricky thing on performance vs longevity of the engine). I'd also want to see the before and after dyno plot to see how much new space there is under the curve vs just a peak number increase. Area under the curve is all that really matters unless you're just drag racing it.

I'm not beyond believing that BMW has built a 700 hp engine that they detune one way for the M50i and another for the X5M (and eventually another for the next model M to get to the safe max for the engine). Is that your understanding of how these huge gains are possible in a driveable long lasting engine?

So do we believe Steve Dinan or some dealer of another company's product?

Edit: Can we see some dyno numbers for racechip?

Yeah, that’s what started this whole thread for me. I was hoping they made this for my 2022 X5M50i but they don’t. Or, I would have went for this for certain!

Manufacturers have become more advanced with locking out programmers and coders (well, slowing them down). They have also gotten very strict in voiding warranties if a tune is detected.

I have always respected Steve for what he has accomplished and for holding his position, or he did. A few years back, he made this video....
https://youtu.be/qSGGEaUZfOc
There are multiple companies that make piggyback's that are identical to Race Chip and actually use the same app developer as Race Chip. This is not a plug for Race Chip, but so far, they are the only company that shown they have the facilities to develop there systems. I have a hard time justifying the premium cost of Carbahns over the competition for same thing, if not less.
In full disclosure, I have used GTS Black on a couple N63's. I did not experience any gains on 0 to 60 runs. Marginal gains on the 1/4 but was more noticeable on a 60 to 130mph and 100 to 200kph (.40 sec gain).
I would be more interested in the ECU tune from them. The unicorn is actually talking to someone that has actually used their tune and has data to compare before / after.

Yes, And I find it shifts smoother than Racechip GTS at full throttle in a 0-60 run. As for dyno, I haven’t done it but I am very happy. Butt dyno feels gains are there and I am very happy with the product. No full tune for M50i after 2021 and after due to the ecu being locked per carbahn. If they make the product, I’m going to upgrade from piggyback.
