The X line up will be very interesting, and it all starts with the new X3 coming next summer. As a current F25 and now i3 owner, I really want to see more BMW i models. This to me is a dinosaur basically.

No. They are moving up the G05 X5, shortening the F15 X5 cycle to about five years instead of seven. This is so that everything in South Carolina moves to CLAR over the course of about two years (give or take), greatly increasing efficiency vs. if they were to wait.

Plus, with how contested the luxury SUV market has become and how much demand there is for luxury SUVs, this move will allow them to better compete.

Is it me or do these X5 test cars seem to ride a lot lower than the current production X5?

It appears the X5 is moving to a 2 row (5 seat) design- just like the GLM from MB. If there is a 3rd row, it appears it is for small children only.

The X7 will then be the true GLS competitor with 3 full size rows.

X1 - GLA
X3 - GLC
X5 - GLM
X7 - GLS

Throw in the coupes if you feel the need.

GLE, and yes most likely. I don't think many X5's in the wild have the 3rd row option ticked anyway. It does look a little smaller than the F15 X5.

In Sweden I would guess most X5 sold has the 3rd row. Very popular and resale value in an used x5 with 3rd row is much higher than the 5 seater. You get a better TCO with 7 seats.

Look at those big, beautiful windows. I was hoping to get them back in my lifetime. Visibility is back, baby!

Something nice something not so nice

Here it is similar except the new interpretation involves the headlights not to connect to the grille but to join with the grille so the headlights look as if they have melted into the grille.
Thanks for sharing.

There are some pretty clever and innovative details here and there but I think it looks a bit over designed in the way the G11 looks too under designed. Basically I feel it will date and look odd quickly.

If BMW were to keep to the new themes but make them less OTT then we might have something really special here.

Finally the wheels and exhaust ports look a bit smallish as a ratio to the body for me.

I doubt the video is the real G05. The lines of the car is too similar to current F15. Also, really high quality to be a spy video.

Updated August 11, 2017

Not to be left out, the BMW X5 (G05) prototype has joined the other current BMW prototypes by being fitted with production headlights and taillights. Some prototypes have also dropped some front camouflage to reveal the outer grille shape and lower front fascia design.

The G05 X5 will begin production in August 2018 after the current F15 X5 ends production in July 2018. The current 35i and 35d models will become the 40i and 40d, resulting in the following X5 models:

- sDrive40i
- xDrive40i
- xDrive40d
- xDrive40e
- xDrive50i

Are those laser lights? Notice the blue within the led day time lights.

Blue tint in the headlights. That's either the iPerformance version being tested (xDrive40e), or that car is using laser lights for the highbeam headlights...

I had the same question. And the brake lights looked softer than the F15 LED brake lights - are those OLEDs by chance?

Agreed. I think something like 48% of BMW sales last year if I am not mistaken consisted of SAV's in the US.

I really hope the standard bumper doesn't look terrible like it did with the F15
