2024 X5 M60i DIY oil change

Wow this S68 holds 10.75 liters. Was straightforward. Just be careful not to over tighten the plastic plugs.

Edit: The P/N 07145A38759 label should be shown with the oil drain plug on the left. In the pic, that label is incorrectly positioned beneath the filter housing drain plug which is included with the filter.

Thanks for those photos. Looks simple. First time I've seen a plastic oil drain plug.

So I see a 36mm socket for removing the filter housing, but what's up with the drain plug in the filter housing (which uses a T-something Torx?). Does it need be removed? I could see how draining the filter housing before removing it might lessen any oil spillage when the filter housing is removed.

I suspect the purpose of the filter housing drain plug is just as you mentioned - for less mess. Next time I will consider leaving it in to see for myself. Potentially one less thing to fuss with.

Plastic oil drain plug is dangerous, but more so dangerous is plastic lower oil pan that drain plug screwed into. I guess if oil pan is plastic, plug must be of material if same or lower hardness, else the thread on the pan will be gone after 2 oil changes. Plastic oil pan mean it will sure wrap and leak, just matter of when.

I just completed this job as well. Attached is a document with part numbers, tool sizes, quantities, and instructions for resetting the oil life monitor in-dash. As well, adding 10.75 liters after letting sump and filter housing drain for ~30 minutes resulted in this level reading.
