We took the clear plastic covers off of my grandmother's furniture after 20+ years, and the cloth and cushions fell apart to dust on exposure to the air a few days later from dry rot.....

As I say to people who use car covers, it's easy to love something to death. Grit/dirt gets under outdoor car covers, and the wind blowing the cover works like sandpaper. Plus, they trap moisture under them like a terrarium.
...or sat on one wearing shorts and had your thighs stick to the plastic. Even worse than 1970's vinyl car seats, if that's possible.....

I suppose it depends on the material of the car cover and the conditions in which one uses a cover. Not all car covers are the same.

Organ in our house. No idea why my folks bought it. My aunt had one, so maybe Mom felt pressured to buy one. Or maybe my aunt gave it to us. I was too young when we got it to remember how it came about.

Console electric organ in my grandmother's living room that was a junk catch-all after the novelty wore off.
If anyone needs an organ player to play the Star Spangled Banner at a sporting event, I'm your person! Don't ask me to play requests though, since I don't know any other songs besides Mary Had a Little Lamb and can't read music.....

...when your living room looked like this when you were a kid. Here I am playing guitar during music night back when I was a kid. Just look at that shag carpeting! And the TV.
I started playing guitar at 13 and I've been at it for 62 years now. Yes, I'm officially old! Last edited by sygazelle; 12-01-2024 at 10:12 AM.. |

Today in history...on this day in 1969 the U.S. Government held its first draft lottery since WWII. Remember it well...my number, 52...sealed my future.

The letter ordered me and a few dozen others to appear at our local Greyhound Bus Depot on August 1st. After I deposited my few earthly belongings at my parents house (they were away on vacation), my roommate gave me a ride to the Greyhound in his ‘56 Chevy. It was a pretty unhappy crowd.

I was prepared to get drafted before this event. I'd already had my physical. I waited and I waited. My number ended up being #324. This is a day I will never forget. Last edited by sygazelle; 12-01-2024 at 11:46 AM.. |

My mom went on to become president of the local symphony orchestra for many years. I just noticed this: Way in the background under the lampshade was my girlfriend at the time. She's still around. We've been married for 52 years! |

Back in my IT manager days, I bought a 768GB server for use as a data storage server. It doesn't seem that far in the past, although it was probably 12-15 years ago. But I remember thinking at the time that we'd never use that much data space and that it was 3/4 of a terabyte, which seemed like a NASA sized server. That server ran about $20k. Of course it was RAID5 and all that.
Fast forward to today and you can buy a 1.5TB chip the size of your fingernail to stick in a camera or phone. And it's well under $100. That just amazes me. https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-1-5TB.../dp/B0CJMRW771
