Not everyone. I hate that there is no instrument cluster for the driver. This is one step closer to fully self-driving cars with an info screen across the dash. Next step, remove the steering wheel. UGH. Hate what BMW has done with this and the rest of the lineup as well with these single screens! Not a driver's car anymore, now it's more of a passenger's car with controls.

I meant like a pod. A hood over the cluster creating a pod, like every car has had for decades. It's just feels more like a driver's car. This widescreen thing makes it feel like a space age passenger transporter.

After test driving for a bit, it really doesn’t feel like a single one screen, it feels like a clear independent instrument cluster and a seperate infotainment system…just with more options for the cluster and more technology for infotainment. I do not love the lack of buttons for AC and some other things, but I felt like the cluster was all I needed to be a “drivers car”

Perhaps. Just to me, it looks like a passenger transporter and less like a driver's vehicle. Sort of like in Arnold's Total Recall movie with the Johnny Cars. That's where BMW is headed.

I am from India and a new owner of 2024 BMW X5. I had a 2015 X3 before this ( F25 ).
On X5, I am unable to turn off headlights (low or high beam) at night time without turning off the engine. ( I know they are auto off at day time ) As this is super annoying in certain circumstances, I complained to BMW and their response was that it is mandatory in Germany to have the lights on all the time.
I want to know if this is true ! Are cars made in Germany/EU not allowed to turn their headlights ( low/high beam) off completely at night?
Bmw is fast slipping towards "apple" like behaviour where owners do not have a right over their cars. Things like tuning and coding have also been made almost impossible now.

Photo is of day time but this "function" is never available unless engine is turned off via start/stop button.

I don't understand 'why' would you want to have your headlights off at night with the engine on? Do you drive around with no headlights on?

Dude, the rules are different in England or EU then in Pakistan or India. They have different rules and maybe allow there to have no lights on while driving. Just like in the movie knight Rider.

India is a hot country. Many times, while having street side snacks, waiting for others and similar scenarios requires AC ( and engine ) to be on. I do not want to drive without lights on, just want them off at certain times while I am stationary for extended period.

BMW India told me it is because of EU rules. I think he is bu**shi**ing me, so wanted to confirm !

Ooh, sooo many unreal drivers this days sitting in traffic for hours in the big cities.

Why not start a petition in change.org so they convert to real drivers and stay focused and concentrated while driving?

Carmakers are not going to make substantial business decisions on the .001% of people that are "real drivers."

And I don't see how the screens make someone more or less of a "driver."
