Moving from a Cayenne S to X5 M60i
Hello all! As the thread title states, I am moving from a 2020 Cayenne S to the X5 M60i with the Adaptive M Suspension Pro. The car is scheduled to begin production (hopefully) in the next couple of weeks. Main factor in the switch is that I want to upgrade to a V8 from the 2.9L V6 and check all the boxes on options without needing to sell off a kidney if I built a similar Cayenne.
I have been reading a lot of the comments about Cayenne vs X5 and I am wondering from those coming from a Cayenne how much of a difference you felt in the overall handling and if there were any other major noticeable differences in handling or dynamics. I test drove an M60i and didn't feel a significant difference, although I definitely felt some body roll (which is to be expected), but also didn't push it really hard. Not sure if this should be posted here or somewhere else. Last edited by buzzbomb96; 09-23-2024 at 03:22 PM.. Reason: Maybe not the right area to post this. |

I just got my x5 m60i on friday and I LOVE it. Great ride and handle. My lease was up from my 2020 x5m comp and the lease deal on the m60i was great and honestly has just as much power but way more comfortable. So happy with it.

Ordering a m60i as well and torn between adaptive m pro and 2 axle option. Recently test drove a new Cayenne S as well, which was significantly more and didn't feel like its warranted compared to m60i

I went without the 2 axle because I wanted less body roll. From everything I’ve been reading the M pro helps it handle better on curves, etc, but the 2 axle is more comfortable. Tough decision indeed!

Cant wait until it’s delivered and I can start driving it with the increased hp and torque from the Cayenne. I too thought the ride was more enjoyable in the M60i vs X5M. |

You wont regret. I used to drive a Panamera and really think the BMW interior and build quality has been outstanding.

Last year I jumped from a 2020 Cayenne to a M60i and have zero regrets after 16k miles. For my driving style the handling and dynamics are superb. I’ve done some mountain twisties and it sticks to the road. I have 22” wheels and summer perf tires. The S68 is the most refined engine I’ve ever driven. BMW technology is light years ahead of Porsche. Merino leather has a nice feel and is durable. Interior fit and finish is top quality IMO. Any car will have a few niggles such as no comfort access on rear doors but the pluses far outweigh the minuses.
Spend some time with the genius at delivery and be patient with iDrive 8.5. Learn to master voice commands, gesture control, widgets and the drop-down menu. Embrace the technology. For 25 years I’ve bounced between BMW, Porsche, MB, and Audi and this M60i ranks at or near the top.

Thanks LDT for the write-up on your experiences with the driving dynamics and I agree that the minor “negatives” are still worth it. The engine and technology as you mentioned were the major factors in the purchase of the M60i. Regarding the technology I am planning to lean heavily on voice commands and the shortcuts, so thanks for the recommendation to spend some time with the Genius upon delivery. Porsche clearly spends more time on the other non-infotech elements of a vehicle and its beginning to feel dated. One more point: as I have been reading more and more posts, another positive (for me at least) is that the overall maintenance costs look to be cheaper than the Cayenne S. I don’t know if you experienced lower overall maintenance costs in your ownership thus far, but it sure seems like a benefit of going to BMW. |

I'm waiting on my call for my 911 allocation. I'm first on the S list and 2nd on the GTS list at my local dealer. I can justify spending Porsche money on a sports car, but I looked at the SUV's and the money gets crazy fast as does everything Porsche. I'm a little over 2,000mi into my M60 and love it!
Haven't not yet owned a Porsche, I feel like BMW might do daily drivers a bit better as far as amenities, tech, etc? Someone who has been there can correct me. If you're anywhere near SC, you should look into a Performance Center Delivery. It's a free option with BMW, but a now $2,000 option for Porsche. [Edit: I see you're in Boston, so about twice the drive of mine home to Ohio, but you could make a trip out of it]

I owned a 991.2 GTS and now a 718 GT4. Driven 50 miles RT to work in 18 way and buckets and find the ride comfortable. Yes older interiors were simple compared to
BMW but it is more of a driver centric car so I liked it. I was looking at switching back to 911 but wow prices are there. 992 GTS was touching 200k in spec build I want |

I was hoping to do that as I have friends and family in the area but with the storms, etc the delay would be significant on the PDC pickup.

Get a 718 Cayman GTS4.0. It'll out perform a base 992 in every way.

I am picking up the X5 today from detailer after ceramic coat and PPF. I have put on about 150 miles since picking it up and am liking the adaptive pro suspension so far. The X5 feels a bit heavier (because it is) but I am surprised how well it's handling thus far. I liked the seating design better in the Cayenne as they are more sportier in the layout, but the overall interior on the X5 definitely gives you way more value. Couple technical glitches with the remote app, but so far so good!

Anyone came from a Cayenne GTS or Turbo (4.0) to BMW V8 ?
Currently enjoying my 2020 X7m50i w/ Dynamic Handling Pkg my CPO warranty is up next year so either jumping into a X5 M50i or M60i, or try a Cayenne GTS/Turbo CPO. Noticing the Cargo in the Cayenne is nothing compared to the X5, if anything could be similar to what it was in my X4M i had it seems the Cayenne Coupe is even smaller in the rear.
