Looking for some recommendations

Hi guys - new to the forum. I just ordered a G05 M50i and it will be delivered sometime in December. I have the 742m 22" staggered setup, so I realize that it would be best if I got a winter wheel/tire package being here in northern Indiana.

I am leaning towards the 740m square setup but I am trying to watch the cost. I have seen that there are individual wheels for sale that are refinished through ebay between $350 and $450 per wheel. I think this with a set of good all season or winter tires would be a very cost effective approach.

Has anyone tried this? Your thoughts/suggestions/feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks..

Ben

The 740M comes with a full winter set from BMW. Buying refurbished and then adding the rubber, other parts plus balancing will hardly be cheaper.

Thanks. So I see a full winter set goes for around $3800 (on most BMW parts websites).

- Is that mounted balanced w/TPMS?
- Is there typically a discount/promo code offered to apply with the purchase of a new vehicle?

I think I could get to about $2900-$3000 with a refurbished setup w/Michelin X-Ice x12s + mount/balance/TMPSs

I was in the same position! I didn't like the 22" winter tire options, and I couldn't find reasonably priced 740M wheels, so I custom ordered a set of Forgestar flow formed 20" wheels for $2180 shipped incl. TPMS, and a set of 20" Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V2s for $1047 shipped incl tax. Including $150 mounting and balancing, the total will run me $3,377 installed, which is much cheaper than the BMW winter set.

Thanks Brian...I am leaning towards the Aftermarket option too.

Did you have to change the factory 35mm offset for your Forgestar wheels? I was going to order the Rohana RFX11s and the shop (Fitment Indusries) had a BMW expert tell me that I needed to order the 25mm offset, otherwise it would rub the Msport calipers.

That would essentially bring the wheel out 10mm away from the vehicle.

Anyone else had this issue?

They said that 20x9 +35 cleared Gallardo brakes, so I should be good. To err on the side of caution, I ordered 20x9 +30 for an extra 5mm of clearance

Excuse my ignorance, but isn't going 25mm instead 35mm the same as using 10mm spacers just without the spacer?

Yes that's correct. I went only 5mm more aggressive (for extra brake clearance) than stock +35.

Hi,

I was in the same position and ended up purchasing individual refinished OEM wheels online. I wanted to keep the stock look and wasn’t happy with the aftermarket options. I rationalized that the refinished wheels were guaranteed true and cosmetically perfect, as opposed to the advertised “matched sets” which I’ve had quality problems w before. The price was right and the product has not disappointed.

Note: I ended up going w the staggered 22” 742M w Pirelli Winters. They perform very well in the Tahoe snow, and drive great on the highway. I ruled out the 21” rims because the tire selection is abysmal. If I had to do it again I might opt for the square 20” 740M w a more aggressive +5 tire. Love the rally look.

Tips up

Thanks -

I thought about just getting winter tires on my 742s, but I can't think of putting those through a harsh winter not to mention mounting tires 2times/year.

My dealer wanted nearly $4000 for the 740m winter setup.

I ended up going with a Rohana rotary forged 20 x 9 wheel +25mm to bring the wheel out a bit. Got 1/2 price on some Yokahama Parada tires (OEM size).

We will see how it works....

How come you didn't go with winter tires?

Fitment Industries didn't have my desired setup, so I just went with the discounted All-Season Parada Spec-Xs. I have these on my Jeep SRT and they are good in the snow, and a great road tire. I got them for $400. Would have been over $1000 for a nice winter setup.
