"Winter rated" wheels: whaaaaaa?
Ok, I've been using winter tires on separate rims for close to 30 years now, and I've been running alloy rims during winter for over 15. I started looking for wheels for the X5 and found that there are wheels that are "winter rated" (seem to be black or dark grey only) and ones that are... not. Does anyone know what the heck winter rating means, and why some wheels would receive it and others douldn't? Has anyone ever had winter conditions damage OEM alloys?
Thanks! |

Okie Dokie then. I guess that makes sense... Seems to me that resellers and manufacturers want to cover themselves in case of cosmetic damage or the like. I suppose it would be more of an issue with cheap aftermarkets than with OEM wheels, though. (Or perhaps not, but OEMs figure that the wheels only have to las as long as the car's warranty...)
