As an aside - I'm running TS860S's at the moment on my F15 and they are an excellent winter tyres, the best I've had on any of my cars and they come in the right size for the 21s but don't have the * |

Since this is a winter setup its better to run a narrower tire. The wider the tire the more they want to "float" over snow instead of cutting through it.

But I decide I to use my stock 808 style rims for winter set. From stock rear 808 wheels are 11.5 inches wide, in winter set -11.0 The main reason is that it is important to me how my car looks like 6 months a year with narrow rear tires - it's really strange. I have three options of winter tires in 315/35/21, unfortunately Michelin doesn't offer this size, but Nokian and Yokohama do

If you say the width of the 315/35/21 is 11.6", that is the same width as 295/35/21.

My stock 808M (bicolor) wheels are 10,5J x 21 with 295/35 R21 tires on front and 11,5J x 21 with 315/35 R21 on rear. On 808M (black) winter tires front rims are the same but rear rims are 11.0J |

So,i own X5 M50d...and i have 22 inch wheels on.
I want for winter set 808M wheels. When i put on calculator it seams that front wheel be 6.7 mm closer to suspension strut...also the outer rim will poke out 18.7mm more then before. And rear wheel will be 11.4mm closer to suspension strut. Well, what do you guys think..will it fit? [IMG][/IMG] |

I’m planning ahead for next winter and reading this and related threads with interest. I plan to get an F95 when my G05 lease is up next year.
Like some others here, I run a winter set-up six months a year and prefer to keep the summer/OEM look. I also have a STRONG preference for Michelins over any other tire brand, so predisposed to the Alpin5 SUV and winning the PS4S factory lottery. Since Michelin doesn’t currently produce the PS4S in 315/35R21, I’m bound to the optional 21/22 809Ms. So .. my provisional plan is to buy a second pair of 10.5x21 809M (front) rims and run a square set of 295/35R21 Alpin5 SUV tires in winter (and swap tires on the front OEM 809Ms twice/year). There appears to only be 1mm difference on the outer position of the rims (10.5 vs 11.5). I can live with the 25mm inner clearance difference (gained) switching from 11.5 summer rims to 10.5 winter rims in the rear. I realize the bi-color 809Ms will run more than monotone 808Ms of the same size. Any pitfalls or holes to that plan?!? |

Sorry it took me so long to post a picture of my winter tires and wheels from BMW.
Hope this helps if anyone is still looking for winter setups. Thx, Nick |

I work part-time at the local dealer, so logistics are easy: I’m there all the time; they store whatever tires/rims aren’t on the vehicle; and I get a break on cost of mounting tires whenever seasons change.

I wonder if I should sell the wheel set or hold on to them for next season? I think it's going to be a horrible winter season (i.e. zero snow) for So Cal this year. How long would the tire compound stay compliant if I store them in the garage? |

Here's some pics of the '21 X5M with 20" square winter wheel setup. If anyone was wondering there is just enough clearance for the brake calipers. Probably about 1 inch gap.
I originally bought them on getbmwparts earlier this past fall for the '20 X7 and the 4 wheel set was roughly $4400-4600 with tax and shipping from the east coast to San Diego. The reason I did not go with staggered set up or just replace the tires only was 1.) convenience of just swapping out the wheel sets at the local tire center for $40 and maybe a 20 min wait. But also, 2.) if it actually snows heavily in the So Cal mountains, Cal Trans and CHP requires everyone to have chains or cables and Peerless makes a snow cable that fits 275/45R20 and it only costs about $98, so I usually will by 2 sets and put them on all 4 wheels. And yes, even though technically it is only required that we put chains on the rear wheels only, there are areas on Hwy 38 going up to Big Bear from Yucaipa where there can be numerous areas of black ice and snow drifts that come in sideways when conditions are bad. So better safe than sorry for an extra $100 for a set of snow cables. Sorry for the crappy cellphone quality it's been a long time since I posted to any car forum. Also a photo of the same wheels on my '20 X7 (the winter tires and wheels work great in sandy high desert sand like in Barstow!) and random '21 Sierra pic and '20 M2C which will pretty much be collecting dust this winter. Ironically the Sierra is rolling on 20's also but the square setup for it is 275/60R20" so a tad bit taller than the BMW's 275/45R20. |
