Is there anyway to repair scratches in matte trim? With gloss you can at least partially if not completely buff it out. Not so with the matte. I imagine this is a problem with those matte black paint jobs as well.

I've seen pictures of this trim against Coffee and Tartufo and it looks great. Looks more greyish with hints of brown. edit: This post (CLICK HERE)shows Tartufo (thanks AndriodRobot) against Anthracite. I would imagine the coffee will look very similar. There's also a post in this thread showing the coffee against Anthracite. I personally think it looks great. Not too brown, not too dark, hints of grey and earth tones. Compliments the leather very well! |

Thanks for the response. Very helpful. I see you ordered the M50i which will be a riot. I’ll be doing PCD as well but likely will be in February sometime. Have fun!

Can someone confirm that the anthracite matte poplar trim appears in the window sticker as, 'Brown Poplar wood trim.'

Goes perfectly with Black Merino. Someone asked about scratches, but I don't think you'd even know notice scratches on this finish. So far (6 months) looks brand new.

Yeah in my experience the matte trims are much more resilient and easier to fix, you could use some wood filler if you got a bad nick and get it to look better than you ever could buff a glossy trim.

She wanted matte, but did not like the gray tones in the Anthracite so opted to go with fineline. In her eyes, color beat finish in the end in the toss up.

I took my delivery yesterday and extremely happy about my poplar wood-brown vernasca combination decision. When I touch the wood it doesn't look like it will scratch easily with say you home key or lightning cable or sunglasses etc. my piano trim in earlier X3 was prone to finger prints and hairline scratches. That said, I if it ever stcratches due to some mishandling, I think it will be unfixable. What about regular interior cleaning weekly or once in 2 weeks. What do you use? I doubt If a damp MF can be used? Anyone? |

It appears to be coated with something already - pretty hard. I'm not sure how deep the finish goes, but I suspect a fairly heavy scratch would only require minor buffing to disappear. I've never been able to really get a high gloss finish to look original, and they all seem to collect fine scratches no matter how carefully I handled them.

I just picked up my 2020 X5 xDrive40I a week ago. I haven't driven it very much however today I noticed a flaw in the Matte wood. After inspecting most of it, I noticed some hairline cracks and I am thinking this is characteristic for this wood. I took a picture of the one area and you can see it almost looks like a knot. Are these flaws normal in the Matte wood trim?

Yes I can see you what you mean. In my picture the area looks like a piece flaked off and was glued back on. Probably not the case but it sure looks that way.
