US X5 45e owners...some data please!
What kind of range are you seeing on all electric/per charge (and describe your driving style if you dont mind)?
When using ICE, what are you seeing as mpg (hwy/cty/style)? My typical commute is appx 70 miles round trip, no charger at work - so trying to get a better idea of what I can expect for range. I'm thinking if I get 30 miles per charge, I should be visiting the gas station every 2 weeks or so. Also - how long are your charging times (and what kind of charger)? I really wish we could use the entire 24KW battery like the EU X5 45e's but 30 or so mile range is still decent for such a large vehicle. Thanks in advance - Aceman |

My typical economy is
+/- 10 L/100 km when on ICE without battery charge. This is typically on the highway during roadtrips in the weekend or holidays. My daily commute is on electric only. And 32-33 kWh/ 100 km in all electric. So if in the US the battery has 17 kWh netto capacity (is this confirmed? Seems to be only one report!). You should get around 50 km. So for you trip 70 miles roundtrip, 30 miles will be done electric. The rest on ICE at around 28 mpg. For the 40 miles around 1,4 gallon. The fuel tank is a bit smaller: 69 liters (18.2 gallons). So going to the gas station every two weeks seems correct. If you charge every day. I try to drive economically. So I release the gas well before a trafic light to regenerate electricity. I like to accelerate. But within the 40% power range of electric drive. You will see what this is once you get it. On the highway I drive 130 km/h usually on ACC. I like to accelerate on the highway too to come to speed. So I am not a sporty drive. Just normal and when possible trying to charge the battery. For you trip you will have to try to find out what works best to get back home with an empty battery. It also depends on the total length of highway vs other roads. My charging time with the normal BMW charger is 10h for a full charge on 220v. So your should be double with 110v. But you would have to correct for 17 netto vs 21 netto kWH. |

Thanks X545e. I've seen the other threads, given US cars don't have the same battery size, figured I'd start a US thread given the EU numbers don't apply to us (which stinks!). Hopefuly some US owners will chime in w/ some recent data...
Seems like you are really liking your choice! that's good - great info in your post btw - thank you. Aceman |

I have a 2021 e45 my commute is about 35miles a day round trip and I drive on electric both ways, when I get home I still have at least 15% left on my battery I can say, this BMW has surprised me with this battery since I'm coming from a 2016 edrive and that battery really sucked! long story short it should cover your commute if is not more than 42miles and you are easy on the pedal.

Thanks Guys - just the type of info I was looking for.
FrankJ - so looks like you were getting about 26MPG on ICE only - damn good for 5600lb truck! Evoman - thanks - I am very hopeful to attain the same kind of range! Do you guys have an idea of how long it takes to fully charge? is 5-6hrs legit? Aceman |

When I ordered mine at the end of September, there were no 45e around. I just got lucky last weekend at the Ultimate Driving Event in Philadelphia that they had one and I was able to spend a little time on it. Love the fact that there is no noise when you start the car. That was weird as it was my first time driving hybrid or electric. Unfortunately, the car was driven a lot before and there was no battery left at the end of the day. |

The note at the bottom of the chart is confusing and contradicts what we know about 16 amp max charging capacity !?! Typo?

Charger can pump 32 amps or even more but that doesn't mean the X5 can take advantage of the full 32, the onboard charger is limited to 16 amps (or 3.7 kW). Also the i3 on the same list can charge at 32 amp, it is the PHEVs that charge slower.

I just picked my 45e over the weekend and just did a full charge overnight, it says I have a range is 42 miles. Is that what other US owners are seeing? I read BMW USA site and it only says 30 mies. I understand mileage may vary, but seems like it will go farther than the 30 BMW is saying?

We did not quite run the battery out this evening, but we went 36.5 with 3 more to spare on the computer. This was back country roads with twist and turns and stop and gos in neighborhoods. Will try to take it on the highway and see what I get in the next couple of days and report back.

Went on 80 percent highway and 20 percent city this evening. Had the AC and radio on and managed to eek out 37 miles out of a full charge. Others who have a chance please start posting.
