I researched it quickly on the USA site but there is no mention of it there. I’ll venture to one of the many international BMW sites to find out more.

What is the performance like? Is electric mode independent or does it work in sync with the gas motor? Pardon if these are simple questions.

Thank you
Both can work at the same time giving good performance 5.6 seconds to 60 MPH

So my 45e has left the factory, heading for the UK and delivery in about a month from now.

Very annoyingly, I got a call from my dealer today to say that two of the options I specified had been missed from the car, but that this was not noted until it left the factory. Both were part of the Comfot Plus Pack (UK spec) and that was the heated and cooled cup holders and the perforated/ventilated seats. Not high on the list of things I wanted in a car, but super annoying not to get what was specced. They have offered me a cash discount for them not being there, or another build slot in February.

Are these the multi-contour seats? If so, you ought to take the new build slot. The sport seats cannot begin to match them for comfort.

I’ve just had the same call, though my CA only mentioned the heated/cooled cup holders. Apparently the issue was only spotted when the car reached Germany.

I think they are still the comfort seats, as the massage function is still there and I believe that is only on the comfort seats (which I assume is the same as multi-contour?)

So did you have the ventilated seats as well in your order?

Really p****s me off that that we are not allowed to spec individual options, only buy them as a package, but that they can be "forgotten" in the build process

Yes I have the ventilated seats too as part of the Comfort Plus pack. My dad has essentially the same car in order too (was probably on the same boat as yours) and both of ours are only missing the cup holders. The CA went through the orders with him and that was only option missing.

Both process and quality control seem to be quite poor. If the issue only got spotted in Germany it makes you wonder what they were doing at the factory QA stage.

I would definitely ask for a new slot and the first slot available. Not a slot in February! They fucked up so BMW can asap set it right.
A cash discount is ridiculous, what else you pay for options not installed? But if the discount would be 10k ...

I'm torn! They won't guarantee a slot before Feb (even though it is likely to be earlier) and build in Feb surely means delivery in late March/April. I don't want to wait that long.

The flip side is that BMW will give me a car of some form until a new one arrives and they have offered a £2500 discount.

Is that £2500 off the reordered car or on the incorrect one if you choose to accept it?

I’ve been offered £1000 for the missing cup holders but that’s to accept the mid-built car.

At the moment I’m leaning towards taking the money, on the basis that it’s a nice but non-essential feature.

That is £2,500 off the incorrect car if I accept it. They are essentially "giving" me the additional cost of the Comfort Plus Pack, over and above the Comfort Pack, for free.

I'm leaning in the same direction. Part of going for the 45e is the better environmentals for a big car and what am I doing if I make them build me a new one? First world problems etc. etc.

Heated cup holders are in Belgium a separate option. They are not part of a package. If my car would arrive without that option I would refuse it. And insist for an earlier slot. Maybe they are not essential but I had a reason to order them. If I pay +100K for a car I expect that I receive a car that I ordered. I won't take a 2500 discount to be the next 4 or 5 year's annoyed that I don't have that option.

The incorrect seats makes it a harder decision.

If I reorder then I’m effectively paying £1000 for heated cup holders. It’s been hard enough justifying all the options to my wife as it stands!

If you put it that way, 1000 for the cupholders is a pretty steep ask for a relatively small feature

If you reorder BMW should give you a discount beacuse they fucked up. Poor QC is the reason you have to wait several months longer for the car you want or settle for a car that you didn't order. Both are unacceptable and in both cases they should give a discount.

In principle I don't disagree, but that wasn't offered. It's a minor omission on my car and the amount of compensation is reasonably generous, no doubt to make it a fairly easy decision. Don't worry I did ask if there was any more on offer.

As I said I think jonjo001 has a much harder decision.

They'll still sell it, you'd just be bringing another well specced X5 to the UK market. I'd call that socially responsible.

I appreciate all the thoughts. I think I will push to get an early slot and the car that I wanted. I had gone to town a bit with the spec and had Visibility Pack, Technology Pack, M Sport Plus Pack, Comfort Plus Pack and then the Sky Lounge and Acoustic Glass.

My sensible voice says that I didn’t choose the Comfort Plus Pack for the ventilated seats, but the pedant in me is much like HeavyD in that I would spend 4 years always slightly annoyed that it is not quite right and for £80k+ it really should be.

Like the 'socially responsible' blue triangle too :-). BMW-fan service to bring more of them into the UK!
