Messing around with idrive 7 also isn't safe while driving. I rarely dive into idrive when I'm driving and if I'm searching for something I stop.
The climate menu and the means to adjust the temp is always available. So I don't see any real difference besides it's not a physical button but it is always available on screen.

I’m not because I’m not ready to lose all my physical buttons. However, when the next gen comes out for the MY27 redesign, I’ll have no choice but to go to iDrive8.5+

Like I said, I have not seen the LCI yet, but if they do have the most used (virtual?) buttons on the screen, I can live with that even though I would rather have the real buttons. But I am happy with my 2023 X5 M50i.

A time you wished you still had virtual buttons or a widescreen glued on the dash

M50i we can only drool about that in Europe. Tube transport will probably be the future... I'm glad I can still buy a 50e.
I'm upgrading from 45e to 50e because that the last plugin hybrid with tax benefits. So extra HP and larger battery is important. I'm planning to keep him for a longer period because ICE will be something from the past where we can dream about. Next new car will be a EV shoved through my throat

I probably will, as the lease is up in 2024 but I am not 100% decided yet if I will get an M60 or X5M since I may get the latter and keep it for good and mod to Gods.

I don't get what people have about the widescreen or less buttons. Even the useless shifter is gone

Even in the beginning of the G05 people were nagging about the huge grill and nav display that was on the dash and not in the dash.
Ha ha. Truly said.
I ordered one too before the 31st Dec last year to get the tax benefit. Expected delivery is in July 3rd week.

When is yours arriving?

Ordered in February so I still have the tax benefit except for the gas. Production July, delivery beginning of October.

I have a pre-LCI F95 and rented an LCI X7 the other week while away. The ID8 climate functions are a touch away but adjusting them through the screen is very annoying coming from an ID7 car. It is distracting, takes your eyes off the road for longer and even had a small lag at times going in and out of the climate menu. That being said the screen was far superior to the one on ID7 car. Huge trade off.

I'm on an extended nomading trip using my 45e, and I really love it. Chances are my next car will be a full EV at this point, but that depends on a lot of factors.

Although I still really want a V8 before they go extinct.

This is my experience as well. I bought a Subaru Outback with the new infotainment system, which has the HVAC and heated/ventilated seat controls in the touch screen. I took it for a test drive and thought “hey this isn’t bad, I’ll get used to it.” Even after a year and a half, I never did. I test drove an iX and that was actually what compelled me to order a 2022 X5, since there were rumors that the LCI would come for MY23. So I sold the Outback.

Yes, there are some retiree-aged people out there who are “afraid of new technology,” but I am not one of them, I’m a 30-year old engineer. Tactile controls that one can operate without looking at them are just objectively safer and more efficient.

How could you order something that wasn't released?

Belgium opened orders for the LCI in December due to tax changes. Elsewhere in Europe orders are opened prior to the launch.

The tactile buttons I use the most are still there.

See 10:03
and 7:29 for the temp adjustment.

I mostly say: hey BMW set temp to xxx degrees
But I rarely change it from 20 degrees.

I don't understand the tactile button discussion. There are weeks or months I don't push a button. But some people are pushing constantly buttons while driving?

I used to say hey BMW at first, changed to my own access saying but after the novelty wore off just press the voice button on steering wheel, much easier and quicker.

Yes that's true. I also use the button on the steering wheel more now.

For those of us in cold Minnesota, we are constantly fiddling with seat heaters and the steering wheel heat. I also mess around with the fan speed control. My wife is always messing around with the seats and fan.

Not only is the menu digging and issue, but each time my wife goes into the menus, it changes what I see as the driver.

Jeep and Dodge had this same issue. Eventually they added shortcuts to the bottom of the screen that you could customize. Then Doge put the buttons back in the Durango.

For me if it isn’t broke, why fix it? They could have left the climate buttons in the car and the steering wheel heater button on the steering wheel. Instead BMW tries to save a buck and makes the car harder to use

I can’t do the buttonless idrive. Was very excited about the new 50e engine but iDrive 8 is a showstopper for me so looking into the ‘24 Cayenne instead.

The lack of buttons for day to day operations feels very unsafe and distracting to me.

I’m hoping iDrive 8.5 or 9 brings back buttons at least in digital form.

I am with Heavyd. Maybe it’s because I do live in California but on both my cars I usually only press the M1 button (both M cars, and that’s my daily setting) and enetually might need to adjust the temperature. But I usually don’t change where the air comes out from so it’s just a change in actual temperature value.
So for me, no buttons is actually a good thing. I owned a model 3 for 2 years and even there never really missed the buttons.

I agree with what you are saying but maybe I am strange but I find myself very rarely changing temp settings. I frequently drive to visit family which is like 150 mil round trip. I might click temp or seat temp once.
I think if u test drive u trying to figure out all the menus and it’s all new. But after few weeks u settle in ur routine and just press few buttons here and there.
Just my opinion, I am also not old person. lol.

My 45e is only 8 months old. Super happy with it. It will be next gen before I am looking into getting another.

Also, just picked up a Cayenne S for MLC. So, no LCI for me.

Pass. Love the thought of the engine, like the aggressive exterior, but absolutely hate the interior. Screen looks like an afterthought that was just plopped in place and the lack of button is ridiculous. No buttons, in my opinion is not functional or safe; I don't think it's a good look either - just blank real estate on the dash to stare at. I'll keep my M50i for now and wait to see the new G65, but probably will end up looking for a CPO M50i or F95 sooner rather than later if I can't find any remaining pre-LCI cars on dealer lots. I can't see them bringing back the buttons, but hope they prove me wrong.
