A few maintenance questions

I'm a long time Porsche owner and have done much of the maintenance myself (I use a QuickJack lift) and I plan to do a good bit of the maintenance on my recently ordered G05 i40 (I know BMW covers most of the maintenance for the first 3 years).

- Is the oil change interval at 10k miles (as with Porsche) or is it determined by an on board system? If it's not 10K at what mileage does the system call for an oil change?
- Can you reset the oil service system via on-board tools or do you need a separate tool?
- I believe the BMW I-6 engine is fairly robust and reliable engine, does it have an issue with oil leaks? (the Porsche V6's have a problem with them and that's one of my pet peeves, a $90k+ car should not have an issue with oil leaks!).

Thanks for indulging me....

The car can determine oil change interval based on certain predefined parameter. The average is about 10k mile or 1 year.

Yes you can reset oil change indicator without special tools.

All cars will leak oil at some point, no exception for bmw, regardless of how much it cost. In fact, maybe the more expansive cars, maybe the sooner they leak

Thanks for the response.
I thought I remembered someone saying their car didn't call for the oil change until somewhere around 15K mi. While I'm long past the days of 3k mi. changes I have no problem w/ 10K with quality synthetic oil in most modern cars. (air cooled 911's are an exception).
Thanks again.

Older bmw set their parameter to track 15k miles oil change, newer one has 10k. I think the switch is from N55/N63. Just a guess, i don’t own these. My non M54 abs N54 both use 15l

That is too bad. I was hoping that my first BMW would be as good as the Japanese and British cars I have owned:

1991 V12 XJS sold when 25 years old and 65K miles, no leaks
1999 XK8 Jaguar sold after 10 years and 90K miles, no leaks
1998 ES300 - sold at 12 years and 220K miles, no leaks
1999 Montero - sold @10 years and ~ 200K miles, no leaks
2009 Xterra sold @ 10 years to brother in law, 200K+ miles, still going with no leaks
2019 Highlander 130K miles no leaks
